Hah! Got to love the older trucks alright! The only high tech electronic gizmos in my old 110 are my hearing aids... :D These make my engine quieter... :cool:

Oh, and the new-fangled winch solenoid.

Luddites....:D

I've got old and newish. The old is good, but even the 2003 Rangie - which has around 20 computers in it has gone 10 years without fault. Plenty of other things have gone wrong with it mind you - I'm not saying it's perfect, but the German electronics in it are first class.:)

Maybe Jeep just need to find some better designers...

As far as I know, it's all German(Bosch) Gav, just like your Rangie.

I get a bit tired of hearing all this bull**** about electronics and how you'll die in the middle of nowhere if you have a modern car, bit like "don't run with scissors" OR "don't go swimming for 1/2 an hour after eating"

:zzz::zzz:

So why the fear of electronics? I'll never understand. Electronics give us cruise control, climate control, stereos, abs, airbags, ace and engine management. All of which my 15 year old D2 has and which I couldn't live without. I love electronics. Nothing to fear if u have a nanocom either.

With the newer cars a recall only takes a tic usually. I don't see the problem personally. ;)

The only electronics to fear are the ones with a Lucas label on them or Chrysler Jeep/ Fiat apparently.

All very necessary, in a robust, reliable 4WD :wasntme:

Electronics are usually more robust than the mechanics of any machinery

^ What he said :) In my experience mechanical issues are always more prevalent than electronic ones.

Yeh I agree, I was only funin' :)
Electronics are only resistors, transistors and diodes. Pretty much every thing else is mechanical; such as printed circuitry, sensor wiring, connections and actuators.
But you can't fix a diode, where you can fix wiring.
