4000lb Winch and Anderson Plugs

I have a 4000lb ATV winch to mount on my Haflinger. Providing permanent heavy duty wiring is a bit problematic because of the cabin layout and the winch will only go on when going on a trip where it might be needed.

So I would like to rig up and Anderson plug at the battery end and one at the winch end and run a temporary heavy duty anderson plug fitted power cable when the winch is needed.

Now the winch pulls 180amps at 4000lbs but the Haffie only weighs 700kg and 1 tonne loaded so even bogged no where near 4000lbs.

I have found 175 amp Anderson Plugs but ideally I would like the next size bigger if they exist.

So can you get higher rated anderson plugs and will a stand 50amp plug plug in or are the high amp plugs physically bigger as well.

Hi Garry and yes you can get 350 amp Anderson Plugs.

BUT.

Your 175 amp Anderson plugs should easily meet your needs.

Anderson plugs, like many electrical components, are rated at their CONTINUOS maximum current carrying capacity.

In the case of Anderson plugs, their rating is based on carrying their CONTINUOS maximum current for at least 50 hours ( indefinitely )

But they can safely handle much higher current loads for short periods of time.

For example ( compliments of Anderson Power Connector Data Bases ) 350 amp Anderson plugs can tolerate around 700 amps for two minutes.

the 175 Anderson will be fine.
Been using ATV winches for a few seasons for pulling boats (2T+ loaded) onto trailer. Trailer is kept all but sry (rear axle out of water) this saves on trailer maintenance but loads up the winch a fair bit.

175A Anderson is connection between ute and trailer. No problems or any noticeable heat build up at the connection.
