Hello,

I was looking at a D3 this week and the seller was implying later years D3 (2008 and 2009) only takes 19" rim. The FAQ on this forum says TDV6 is able to take a 17".

Appreciate if owner of TDV6 D3 please confirmed that the D3 can take 17" rim ?

Thanks in advance.

As far as I know only the 3.0 D4 requires a 19" rim because of the increased brake size required to match the increased hp.

All D3 with 2.7ldiesel and 4.0l petrol can be fitted with 17" rims.
D3 did not have 3.0l diesel.

V8 petrol D3 may have larger brakes so 17" rims may not fit.

D4 2.7l diesel can be fitted with 17" rims, but none of the 3.0l diesels can be fitted with 17".

19" were OEM on 3.0L,but 18" after market can be fitted,18" LR rims will not fit.

Some of the last build D3's came with 19" wheels (like mine).
But 17" definitely fit. I have changed mine & it was the last production run of the 09 D3 SE TDV6. After that they were D4.

Hi guys

Thanks for the comments. I want to be sure that I can "upgrade" the tyre/rims on a D3 to better handle off-road situation.

It is a complex subject though, list written about it here and it can be quite confusing. There are lots of 17" rims you could potentially fit to a D3, however whether or not any of them are actually legal and won't void your insurance etc is another question altogether.

Lots of complexity about offsets and wheel nuts and load ratings etc.

If you can find them, buy genuine rims. If they were an option on that vehicle model (doesn't have to be that year, just that model), then there is no issue with anything legal.
