View Full Version : Classic Land Rover - Tirfor winch maintenance

Hello from Brisbane.
I used to buy Classic Land Rover each month from my local newstand along with two other UK mags until the cost began to get a bit out of hand. So, I dropped two of them (too much Discovery and coil spring stuff for my limited interests and too little leaf spring items of interest) and elected to take out a subscription to Classic LR.
One of the issues a few months back (possibly October 2014) was to carry a workshop feature on maintaining Tirfor winches that I was particularly keen to get hold of. Unfortunately, this issue must have come out between the time when my local order of the mag stopped and the first subscription issue arrived from the UK - so I didn't get it.
Does anyone have a copy of the Classic LR issue that has the Tirfor maintenance feature who might be able to send me a PDF copy of those pages please?
Cheers,
jerryd

Hi Neil, I've got the copy of the magazine sitting in front of me but being a computer dinosaur I'm not sure how to do the pdf thing
I'll ask a few fellow family members later if they know how :)
Failing that you are welcome to borrow the magazine

Hello again and thanks - appreciated.
I usually scan mag articles that I want for future reference on a copier/printer at my workplace, but can also scan stuff on the smaller printer at home.
If you can't find an easy way to scan it I am happy to borrow the mag, scan the article and return it to you.

Hello again.
Yes, I thought it was in the October issue - when I took out the Classic LR subscription I thought it was going to start with the October issue. However, the first issue to arrive was the November one and the last I took from the newstand was September.....
Anyway, it looks like I have tracked a copy down through Jerryd.
Must say that the Classic LR subscription is a terrific deal - almost 50% of the newstand price and you get it about 2 months earlier than usual. Unfortunately, the international subs for LROI and LR Monthly aren't that generous, even the electronic versions.

No problem Neil, I can always meet you somewhere and give you the magazine.

Your local newsagent should still have October 2014 on the shelves as it was only last week that it became available (on the local shelves).

There's also a mention of tirfor winches in issue number 13, it's more of an article about how to use them. Issue 17 is the current one available. I've never seen a copy of the magazine in the newsagents.
I'm afraid I can't get my copy onto the computer Neil :confused: but let me know if you want to borrow the magazines and we'll make a plan.

Yes,
However, my local newstand was the only one of the local outlets that sold it and they only had it because I was ordering it up until about September.
I can always check to see if they got one in anyway. Might be lucky there.

Hello again from Sherwood.
Yes, the earlier issue carried a feature on using the Tirfors and how they were generally apt for classic LRs etc. The present issue on the Australian stands (October), as you rightly know, carries the article on maintaining them.
My local newsagent might have got a copy in, even though I cancelled my ongoing order a couple of months back. I will check on the way home anyway.
Failing that I will still come looking to borrow your copy - maybe at a future SLOW function.
Cheers,
Neil

We'll be going to Dakabin on the 7th December, I'll put the magazines in the cupboard ready just in case you need them :)

The Australian distributor is Gordon & Gotch:
Gotch Connect Home (http://www.gordongotch.com.au/ggweb/)
If you run out of luck getting a copy, maybe give them a call & they might be able to track down a retailer in your area who has ordered copies.
Or they could send one to you (you never know your luck).

Hello again from Sherwood - was out and about this afternoon and tracked a copy down at a newsagent down the road.
Nevertheless, thanks for the kind offer - genuinely appreciated.
Cheers,
Neil

Hello again.
As luck would have it I found a copy at a newsagent down the road this afternoon - they didn't previously carry that mag and had just the one on the shelf as a bit of a trial.
Thanks for the heads up - I hadn't realised that the October issues had only come on to the stands. My subscription had delivered the December issue about a week ago.
Cheers,
