Coleman - Event 14 Standard with sunwall - Event 14 Standard with sunwall (http://www.colemanaustralia.com.au/product/event-14-standard-with-sunwall/1217346?contextCategory=0104#.VHD-7_mUc48)
Anyone used one of these, or alternate:
Reason i am looking:
Avoid necessity for roof rack
Vehicle is still mobile, once camp set up
Reasonable size & weight
Cheap compared to alternative solutions
but,
Probably fiddly to set up.

FOUND THIS,
Diamantina Escape Portable Gazebo
With a couple of side walls, should give good shelter. I recently bought one of their tents, very happy.
And, i see Coleman do not provide spares in Australia, i dont see how they get away with that

Don't have one myself, but my neighbour does, (do they do a 16' version? I think his is 16') He swears by it, camps and picnics often both from vehicle and boat. We've only joined them once while it was in use and it seemed to go up and down quite easily and gave impressive shade while up.
Talking about coleman gazebo.

Have used several in different environments in Britain.
They're excelent. Reasonably wind resitant, UV proof and, despite their advertising not mentioning, they're waterproof.
Very good value.

I have the event14 brand new still in the box, they were $299 at one stage and i got ours for $189 which is what they go for now.
Havent used it yet but we saw a family using one at Geelong on boxing day this year and thought they were a great idea so bought one.

I have one and its great, first time was a bit trcky to set it up but after that no worries :D.
Its great when we go camping for a few days or more as they provide a lot of shade and at night time i have plenty of space to hang the LEDs from, for my family of 5 we fit nicely.
used it this year up north while camping and the wind pick up which didnt bother the shade at all, i have found it much better then the other pop up sahdes and its lighter to carry.

Whereas the actual fabric might be waterproof the actual seams are not waterproof.
Care is needed if it gets windy. It is possible to make a pole to attach to central plastic roof fitting which stops it collapsing. Better guying then the guy ropes provide are needed in windy condition. Also you can make a webbing square with guy ropes to go over the top to stop it lifting in the wind.
Good in calm conditions but need extra guying if likely to get windy.

Hi, we have this and have taken it camping numerous times with friends. A bit fiddly to put up and you really need 2 people to put it up quickly. It came with one sidewall so we purchased another 2 as the winds move around and in cold/wet weather it provides some shelter having more than one sidewall. Easy to quickly move a sidewall when the winds change.
Always best to peg it down and have the ropes attached though for anything more than an overnighter.
Can hang a lamp off the top middle using rope or hooks to give light all round.
Can't really fault ours other than the rolled bag it came in splitting easily and scraping when wheeling.

Depends on the model - there are two - standard and deluxe. The latter is apparently waterproof (better seams etc)

I've just started looking for a shade solution to complement my 2x2.5m awning off the side of the No5 camper. With the rear kitchen I need/want some more shade behind the trailer, currently I've been using a tarp, but that can be fiddly and painful to set up.
Was looking in Freddies Fishing today and saw the Oztrail Event shade dome things, which led me to this thread! If you have one, would you buy another? Pro's, con's? Setup time/fuss?
I really want something quick and easy to setup. Probably would use it on my own as much as with the Mrs, so really needs to be a 1 person setup as well.

After checking out the Coleman I ended up going for the Outdoor Connection Coolum 430 (http://outdoorconnection.com.au/products/coolum-shelter-430/) for a myriad of reasons.
Packed up it takes up considerably less space than the Coleman.
It weighs less than the Coleman.
The majority of the frame is flexible so it can withstand wind gusts more easily.
The frame is external which means you can tie it down more substantially if needed.
There are downsides however, least among which is that it is harder to put up. I doubt I'd be able to put it up on my own. I've seen the Coleman pulled down solo. It also costs a bit more than the standard Coleman; but is comparable to the taped seamed Event 14.
Point 3 was the clincher for us. First weekend we got it it survived some wind (http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/dwo/201604/html/IDCJDW4026.201604.shtml) (we were at Moreton for the ANZAC day long weekend - the night of the 24th was interesting). I could not believe it lived through the gusts. It also battled through a storm and with two sides on it against the prevailing tornado it kept 7 people comfortable and dry.
I'd never bother taking it unless I was setting up for a while though. Takes 15 or so to get up and pegged and the same to pack down, with two people.

thanks for the insight!
I'm undecided on what to get... so for now I might just sleep on it and look for other alternatives...

If you want a quick and easy setup you might be better off with one of the fold out gazebo's.

That was my original thought, we were thinking of a 3x3 or similar size but the collapsed size of those wont fit in the trailer OR in the car so would be a pain to transport.

Had my Coleman event 14 setup for the last week here at Cowes and even with the thunderstorm and flash flooding it remained completely dry under the gazebo.

I have used one several times. Great kit but heavy and bulky. Cheers
