I noticed on my run into Motorcycle Accessories that the two speed cameras on the M4 at the Cumberland Highway junction have been removed. Not just turned off, they are gone.

Apparently they were on the list of cameras to be removed.

It was great to not have eastbound cars slowing to 80km/h through the 90km/h camera zone! Most stayed at 100km/h.

Interesting.

A particularly annoying one on my way to/ from work is also on The List (http://www.nsw.gov.au/news/10-speed-cameras-ripped-out).

I wondered what had happened to it.

You can bet the ones being removed aren't making enough revenue.

Yes Ron I noticed that one missing the other day as well

They have probably been relocated to the bottom of a hill somewhere.

Relocated to a more lucrative site for sure.

It looks like the camera at the bottom of the hill on the Gt Western Hwy at Little Hartley might go, too.

Maybe the local travellers on these roads get to know where they are,so revenue is low.

I recon they do well here on the Gold Coast HWY due to the tourists that are around and don't know where they are.

They have also removed them on Terrigal Drive and Manns Road West Gosford.
Maybe only temporarily while they do roadworks with a 40KMH limit anyway.
But at least you don't have to panic any more going along Manns Road Northbound as you don't know whether it was set at 40 or 60.

Probably they have been fitted to the rear parcel shelves of unmarked police cars or to black Hyundai iLoad's like they have in Qld. :(

Does Qld have the three warning signs before the fixed cameras like NSW?

They in a set order. Not sure if this is it, but similar to:
1st: Speed camera ahead
2nd: Speed camera 24 hours
3rd: Heavy fines. Loss of licence

There are 2 fixed cameras that I know of,one is on the M1 at Coomera north bound mounted overhead on an overpass, all 3 lanes, the other is a single fixed pole mounted unit northbound on the M1(Bruce Highway)at Burpengary adjacent to the Burpengary Truck Weighbridge. ;)
The others are mobiles mounted either in iload's (usually black) or Mitsubishi Lancers or unmarked police cars/utes.

ErichActually, surprisingly, it is one of the election promises that this NSW Government has held up to. All the cameras in NSW have been audited to see if their presence has increased safety at the site. Where there is no dividend in reduced road crashes in the section, i.e. it was only revenue, the cameras are being removed.

In QLD with the mobile flash for cash they have to have a sign, problem is the turn it to face the road like = so it can't be seen or read unless you are directly passing the sign.
Thanks to the UHF I'm usually aware of them if there is a bit of traffic around.

They have been removing a few cameras along the new england highway up this way. Murrurundi has been removed, same as a camera near Gaspard.
The downhill shocker on Newcastle rd Jesmond (Newcastle) has also been removed.

Up this way at least, they have all gone either mobile speed cameras in the backs of Holden colorados, or fixed point to point safety cameras, which are worse in my opinion.
One day I might just park up the landie beside / behind it to block it's shot ;-)

Yeah! forgot about the 90kph one at Nudgee southbound :( and I go through that one at least 3 times a month :) more worried about the black iload that parks along the Bruce H'way
And the sign --- they lean that against the front bumper so you can see it in your rear view mirror.

Erich

Spot on Erich. I actually recently read somewhere some where that they were removing some around the east coast, don't remember where but some where around Merimbula.

Their reasons were that they were unproductive. They said something along the lines of due to no one speeding there is no longer a need for them.

Translated this means; They are making no money and due to maintenance they are running at a loss.

My tip is that they needed a few more on the Pacific!
