Picked up the new D4 today. all good so far but not Audi quality with lots of little things. Have noticed that when I sit in the drivers seat and lean back and forwards I can hear the insides of the seat mechanism hitting something. Suspect it's to do with the lumbar as the passenger doesn't do it. Anyone experience this or can replicate? Suspect it's a design thing.

I'm in my 3rd D3/D4 in 8 years and have always found the seats fantastic. No noises or anything like you describe.

The only issue i find is the interior is so quiet that i sometimes hear the leather moving on the seat as i move around but thats it, like it rubs where the base moves up and down but thats it.

You're not imagining it either, mine does the same thing. It gets worse over bad roads etc, so much so the other weekend my wife & I were going down a track & the car was moving around and she could here the noise from her side.

I put the car in for a health check last week & I made mention of this & also told them I need to keep raising the seat height every couple of days as it goes down.

when I picked it up I was told there is a TSB regarding this & they have ordered the parts. The service guy also said this is also causing the noise within the seat...which I doubt but will give them the benefit of the doubt until it's fixed then we will see if that's true or not.

Thanks. Will pop down to the dealership at lunchtime and jump in a couple of others to see if they also do it. Keep us posted.

The seat going down may be your bum!
I have found (I am a short person 5'6") that I slightly depress the height lever on the side of the seat as I get in & out of the car with my hind quarters.

I had a problem with a noise or rattle around the bottom of the driver's seat, that started about 6 months from new. Had it checked just before the next service and found a broken plate, which was replaced at the service.
noise went away.

In my driver's seat I feel there is something only slightly lose in the base that seems to shift, just a mm or so as my weight shifts around. I've tried adjusting the seat to see if that changes things but it doesn't. This has not been raised with the dealer as it is too hard to explain and is quite trivial. It only stands out because it is one of just three things you can fault the car on ( slow entertainment system, and rare hesitation accelerating from low speed being the others). Otherwise it's the perfect vehicle.

I'm not too fussed with the driver's seat in my MY10 -
a) it constantly lowers from the lever being bumped because the lever is mounted too close to the top of the squab,
b) the stitching has come undone across the centre of the squab,
c) the 2 ribs down the centre of the back dig into my back if wearing light clothing and the ribs have been damaged by my belt (stupid place to put ribs)
d) the vynal around the sides of the squab has cracked.

My electric seat has some freeplay front to back. When I first got it I did some research and found the solution was to wind one of the two spiral gears (which are driven by the front back motor) slightly so there is no freeplay. I haven't done it yet as it hasn't annoyed me enough.
The windsor leather seats have a different stitching pattern and I find it more comfortable.

Agree with the comment about the rib down the back - you can feel it.

Went back to the dealership and jumped in a MY14 TDV6 - same thing as mine. One of the service guys came out and explained the way it works. There are no TB's for this seat I am told. The SDV6 doesn't do this at all but has electric mechanics and seems to be a more solid seat.

Highly unlikely as I said earlier, the dealer confirmed there is an issue on some vehicles thats causes the seat to lower...and there is a fix with a replacement mechanism, but as Im 194cm or 6'4 in the old money I don't have any issues getting in or out either.

Our family MY10 is exactly the same, with just a little front - back wiggle with acc / deceleration from delivery day one, but could never pin down the source. Don't care now as it's replacement comes Friday:)

I had the new parts fitted under warranty because of this problem. Makes no difference, seats still drop down over a couple of days :(
