I am after some roof bars for my newly acquired D2 2001. It has the roof rails on the lower part of the roof, have seen these on ebay. Anyone purchased these?

long as the plastic is good quality they should be OK.
Watch out for car parks.

I bought these:
Landrover Discovery 1 2 1992 2004 Adjustable Roof Racks | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/161207555647'ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649)
They appear to be a direct copy of Rhino Rack, i reckon even the Rhino accessories like shovel holder would fit.
I've got a roof top tent bolted to mine and they appear fine. We slept in it the other night with no dramas.

I've just discovered these roof bars caused a high pitch hum at 100km/h. You may want to consider a different brand.

IMHO all roof bars cause a hum at high speed except maybe proper aero bars which sit very low which is not really possible with a Disco, and even those cause some noise.
I found even the factory cross bars cause an increase in noise.
The fix is to fit them no further forward than the "B" pillar and this tends to reduce the noise that you hear.

I'm also in the market for some RoofBars but I want ones that will sit fairly close to the roof, not a mile high like some u see. These ones I think sit fairly high as well ?
The noise is probably from not having the rubber inserts along the bar ??

I agree anything on the roof will create more noise. But this was like an excessively loud sound effect. It was louder than the radio at normal listening volume.

These ones don't actually sit excessively high. As I had the same though you have before i got these. There are not slimline as you describe though.

I've got a similar set of ebay cheap rhino copies on my D1. They are okay but I am looking at putting an extra bolt through the bars to the mount as there is a little bit of movement which wouldn't be good with some weight and bouncing around.
You get what you pay for.

Has anyone made the effort to make their own Roof Bars at all ??
I would be interested in seeing photos of the results.....

I have the same ones. I think they sit a good height from the roof. They are certainly lower then a lot of the other disco2 roof racks I have seen around.
Oddly enough I have not noticed any noise with mine. I had the same style on my last 4x4 and it had a loud whistle at 60km/h.
