Brains trust,
I'm putting in a UHF CB, and choosing the CB was the easy part - choosing an antenna is doing my head in!
My reading tells me that I am after a low dBq antenna for rougher terrain, and a higher dBq antenna for open ground. So far so good.
I found this set package on eBay, so I can pick up the CB and antennas in one got: Icom IC 440N UHF 80CH 5Watt RFI CD933 71 75 SW125 6 5dBi Antenna With 2 Whips | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ICOM-IC-440N-UHF-80Ch-5Watt-RFI-CD933-71-75-SW125-6-5dBi-Antenna-with-2-Whips-/281511845703)
Specs for the antennas are: Elevated Feed UHF CB (477 MHz) Mopole (http://www.rfiwireless.com.au/elevated-feed-cbrs-mopoletm-cd933-71-75.html#tab_desc)
I'm almost certainly going for a bull bar mount, and my questions are as follows:
2.1 dBi is low compared to most that I have seen (mostly around the 3-3.5 mark) - is 2.1 "too low"?
The 6.6 dBi antenna is lower than my roof line, so the upside is it won't get taken out all the time but also reduces range to the rear - should I be looking for something that finishes above my roof line to improve range?
Any downsides to the antenna set I have chosen?
Am I over-thinking things?!?!
Thanks in advance...
