Hello all,

With so many able bodies on the forum, thought I would put it out to all of us for help.....
I want to put in a set of the interior, sliding window guards into my 2006 110, similar to the image: https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2014/12/714.jpg

Instead of buying the Mantecs at quite a premium, would any of you be able to help fabricate a set?
I know there are a lot of people out there with pretty sweet workshop setups, and ability, so if you have interest, time, ability to help, please let me know.

Thanks,
Taylor

I don't know what shipping would cost from the UK but I just had a look at the Mantec window guards on First Four website, less than $350 for the set of three, I'd be hard-pressed to fabricate a set for less than that. Steel has become expensive, also would probably cost $50 just to powder-coat them.

Thanks again, though I checked their site, and the sliding window guards for mine are 282GBP, which is currently 528 AUS Dollars, not to mention shipping.
Anyways, if anyone gets 'tinker' happy, let me know.

Cheers,

Okay just figured out what I was missing, the main page is a bit misleading- a 'set' doesn't include all the windows.
Brings it much closer to being practicable to fabricate for the price.
Hard to tell from the photos, are the frames bent from SHS (square tube) or are they flat?

Looks like flat.

POD, I agree, I looked at three different products before finding the one that was JUST the sliding windows, and for my year/ model.

Thank you all for the help. Vince I will give you a ring this week.

Cheers,
Taylor

Stainless would be best for that application. In which case you want to start with stainless scrap merchants so you don't need to buy a large quantity of material.

You need to be a dab hand or a devoted DIY'er at steel manufacture to beat prices like these vs effort...

Front Grille (Stainless Steel)(Natural Finish), Mark's Garage for Land Rovers (http://marksgarage.co.uk/front-grille-stainless-steelnatural-finish-p-4459.html)

Even Kahn seem to use sluice screen though if you want to powder coat!

The first one is lasercut sheet. It has a much lower void area and lower airflow than is ideal.

A mesh version like the one in the 2nd link is a better idea.

I don't think those prices are that cheap. If you buy from a scrap metal dealer the materials will only be about $3/kg, add in some welding rods and cutting discs...

If you aren't in a hurry just wait for Stage 1 grille to show up, that's what I did (not fitted yet, it's currently waiting for the next lot of galvanising to go through). IMO they look better than the aftermarket alternatives anyway.

Here's the result:

Thanks Dervish that's exactly the sort of thing I want.

So that a Series 3 stage one grille? (The V8 109 " ) ?

What would I put as ebay key word search to keep an eye out for those.....
