Well I've used the replacement o rings gasket and new pressure reg, put it all back on and it's still leaking:-(( Can the fuel block warp? Just trying to work out why it's still ****ing diesel.

happened to me too...those o-rings in the repair kit are not the best quality IMO... new genuine FPR is the real cure and it will last for long

I replaced the full block, genuine, and new gasket (correct the 2nd time around) but it's still leaking :)
I'm probably a hack mechanic though :p

Same here, o-ring kit fitted by mechanic, still leaked, so new unit fitted, now ok.

...and again. Tried the cheap repair (eBay service kit) - still leaked. Replaced the entire fuel regulator with genuine part - problem sorted.

By the time I was fitting up the second time I found the job much easier as well. (-:

Mine was leaking and when I had a look, it was leaking from between the FPR and the head, through the gasket.
One of the bolts was not tight enough and the last person to work on it had added some sealant.
You have to make sure that the gasket surfaces are 100% clean and not marked in any way.
Mine has not leaked now for about 18 months,( So is probably due to die soon)LOL
I think that the lack of access means that it is very difficult to get the front bolt tight enough. That is why I removed the inlet manifold. If you are changing the whole thing including the EU3 pipe , then I IMHO it is essential to remove the manifold.

I replaced the 'o' rings about 2 years ago to fix a dripping fault at the time and this worked perfectly. Recently it has started to leak again, and I once again removed the fpr (following many scratches and cuts and verbal expletives) without removing the inlet manifold first. This is always a dilemma Whether to go through all the hassles of removing the manifold, etc... with its also difficult to get to bolts or maybe just trying to work around it and try to get the thing off without touching the manifold. It always seems to be after the skinned knuckles and frustration that it would have taken longer but in hind site it would have been better, to have remove the manifold first. Anyhow, after battling to get the fpr off, replace the 'o' rings and then refitting the unit.... it still leaked!! On close inspection I noticed that the leak was actually coming from the diaphram and not due to a faulty 'o' ring.
I have ordered and just received a couple of diaphram kits (diaphram, gasket and 'o' rings) from the OE supplier in Spain and hopefully will be able to fit this in the next couple of days. Of course, being a LR, it is not possible to just get a pair of circlip pliers in there to remove the clip , slide the old diaphram out and the new one in and replace the circlip .... you need to go through the whole skinned knuckles routine again ... good on ya LR.
I will post back here again after the new install to advise the outcome.

Not looking forward to it if it leaks again

It might sound obvious. But are you sure you removed the o-ring in the side of the engine before fitting the new one?

Did you replace the top hose as well? Is the leak possibly coming from the hose instead? Mine was brittle at the fitting where the rubber was crimped.

or.... if fitting the fpr with the inlet manifold in place, the 'o' ring on the sealing face can easily dislodge and fall out without the installer knowing. Also, remember that there is a small long thin filter behind this 'o' ring that fits snugly inside and if it has accidentally fallen out, the 'o' ring may not seal against it, meaning the 'o' ring will not compress properly and may not seal, in turn causing a diesel leak.

I used a kit to stop the apparent leak from the FPR. The leak slowed, didn't stop and began to increase over time. I decided to do the replacement

kit again approximately 2 years later. This time there was no change in the speed of the leak. Search all over and around for where the leak was

coming from. I found that it was coming from the grommets that are used on the bolts holding down the rocker cover which had hardened and

shrunk a little over time(15 years :wheelchair:). Replaced grommets and a bit of a clean up with some degrease and yippee, an oil leak free motor.

Cheers,

Well after getting my mechanic to refit the o rings, gasket and reg again it was all good for the trip back home. Today I started it up to go get some coffee, drove it for about 5 mins to the supermarket and noticed diesel smell again. On closer inspection there was a trail of diesel from home to car park.
Looks like I'm heading in the direction of a lr genuine kit. No idea what the problem is with it.

???

Are you saying that you confused an oil leak from the rocker cover with a diesel leak from a FPR?

Or perhaps a leak from the rear of the car? When my FPR was leaking the diesel smell wasn't that bad. But when it leaked from the worn though fuel line (Green one out of the fuel pump) it leaked far more fuel and the smell was bad. There was also a residue of diesel on the rear window.

Not confused at all, the leak was at the back of the motor.

Just trying to say that a leak can be coming from another spot than the one which has assumed to be the culprit.

A fair assumption would be(allowing for that the FPR kit was installed correctly), to perhaps look a little sideways or out of the box for the leak elsewhere, than what has already been repaired correctly.
eg oil at the bottom of the bell housing could be coming from: the rocker cover, the FPR, the main bearing seal, the cam plug at the rear of the head. A leaking FPR can look like an oil leak. See attached picture(not my photo).

If I wasn't clear in the first place, I hope I am now. :spudnikconfounded:
Accept my answer or don't. I'm not to worried. I do all the work on my vehicle and recently on a drive from Warwick to Hervey Bay, back and some other driving Got 990Km out of the tank. I must be doing something right. :D :BigThumb:

I tried the ebay FPR and o ring fix - still leaked. Changed the gasket, still leaked.

Replaced the whole FPR and block with genuine and all good.

Sometimes the cheap fix is not the best fix.

All sorted now, a loose fuel line on the cooler will do that every time. Replacement regulator and kit is doing its job for now.
