Question for the Plumbers - Toilet Suite

Not a subject I really want to post but hoping insight from a plumber?

I fitted toilet suites before never had a bother but always been brands like Caroma etc, but recent replacement of suite with one of those water efficient toilet suites and has issues.( Masters Hardware Special)

The water in the bottom of the bowl looks like the tide is out. It's level is not high enough.
I assume this is because of the toilets design, where the water level can only be determined by the ceramic bend through the toilet base. Water finds it's own level. Let's say not clean if one has used a tide out one
The other thing is the little water used in a flush is insufficient.
I reckon it's a bad design.

Nothing you can do about low tide. As you stated it is the bowl design.

You might be able to increase the amount of flush water by raising the level in the cisten. Did you fit it? If so did you check the water level was correct?

Yep I fitted it, just like previous ones without trouble. The amount of flush is on full any more and it would flood the floor, the cistern empties on full flush. it's 3 and 4 litres from memory.

Given that you understand that water will find its own level and the toilet is working fine then what is your actual question?

I just wanted to know if this is normal with these water saving suites. I have never used one before.
Lets just say, anything that drops into it is not cushioned by water, it hits the sides of the bowl at the bottom. If the water level was higher like most other toilets then you wouldn't be cleaning all the time after each use.
The water for flush us minimal at full flush. You have to press the button after refilling and refill again and flush a normal amount of waste. Having to flush it a couple of times means you are not saving water as it takes double the amount of water to do the job. So I believe it is a poor design.

I recently installed a new water efficient dunny and cistern and I don't have your problem There is sufficient water in the bottom.(high tide:))

Now having said that I did put a new bowl only in my amenities block and the neck of the bowl where the water sits is a much smaller diameter than the one in my house.

It has not caused any problems though, but it is not connected to a duel flush, so does get plenty of water. Not sure how it would go with a matching low water flush cistern though.

The other thing being that I don't use it, my customers do, so I can't comment about how well it does or doesn't work.

So from this observation it does appear that different brands do have different designs, some probably better than others.

The one I changed in my house was also a duel flush which I was not happy with. It was an older one, probably about 8 years old. It did have high tide so that wasn't a problem.
It was the way it flushed. The water would sort of swirl as it came down the sides which would cause the contents to start swirling and instead of going down it would just spin around.

About half would go and the I would have to wait for it to fill and flush again(this was a real dual flush). On odd occasions I would have to do three flushes.

I have two dual flush toilets, both have no problems at full flush but one I do not use half flush on as it just doesn't seem to clean well enough.
The other one works on both half and full flush well.
If your not happy with a Masters toilet take it back if they aren't cooperating enough take some photos !!

Actually I seem to recall a lot of toilets in America had low water levels and/or a lot of areas you could "hit" that were not in the water.

Either way if you are in a position to take it back (i.e. not siliconed in or worse concreted!) make sure you clean it first... :angel:
