Hi, Hoping for some suggestions, 98 Freelander 1 1.8 petrol, Turns over wont fire, Had a mechanic look at it, he put his machine on and said its the coil pack. I paid him and sent him on his way. I brought a new coil pack and still wont start. I pulled the spark plugs out and they are dry and sparking. I suspect fuel, Im getting power to the injectors. I pulled the fuel pump out, the filter felt heavy, The pump sounds like its working as car turns over .brought a new one put it back together and car started first kick for 3 seconds. Then back to just turning over. central locking working fine with remote. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Is this the same car as in your other threads?
Crankshaft sensor & fuel pump done.
The distributor rotor arm was a common failure IIRC. That might explain the coil failure diagnosis.

yep same car, been an ongoing thing, Would I not get spark if the rotor arm was broken?

Still not going after changing the injectors, I have worked out the immobiliser is activated, I changed the remote battery and still nothing. If I pull the plug off the fuel rail it starts momentary. Connect it back up and just turns over. Key pad opens and closes the doors all fine.

Hi,
Just had a similar problem (but with the diesel) it was just cranking and cranking and cranking..
it was getting an imobiliser code and a fuel pressure code, but apparently if it doesnt start within so many cranks the immobiliser kicks in..
and i replaced the battery in the key to no avail.
what got ours going was a new starting battery! hows yours?
Regards,
Tony C

Dont have a code, carnt get a land rover guy in Brisbane to look at it till January at the earliest.

That is a shame as the codes will point to either the actual issue or where to look.

When you say its immobilized, is the red led on solid on the instrument cluster?

Can you do these checks and tell me what you find.
1: Check fuse 3 in the engine bay fuse box 20amp fuse
2: Check fuse 19 in the cabin fuse box. (in glove box under steering wheel) 10amp fuse
3: Check that the inertia switch has not been tripped and there is power on the brown and the brown with green trace wires and the switch.
4: check there is power on fuse 19 in cabin fuse box when key is 1st turned on and when cranking. Then check for power on the white with purple trace wire on the fuel pump when cranking.

Checked them all and there all good, Its getting fuel up to the injectors, Ive even replaced the injectors, If I turn it over it wont start, Then I take the electrical plug off the injectors it will run for a couple of seconds.

Do you have 12v on the brown with pink trace wire on the injectors?
Have you done a continuity on the yellow with green trace wires from the injectors to the ECM. There is 2 yellow/green wires 1 for injectors 1&4 and one for 2&3?
Have you put a noid light on the injector harness to see injector pulse?
Have you put a different engine or ccu ecms in?

Hi Geoff,
I know this thread is from 2015 but if you could kindly advise that would be great, how did you end up getting your 1.8 petrol Freelander to turn over and run?
I have the exact same issue with my 1.8 petrol 2000.
