2 light settings on one switch?

Hi,
I was after a switch that would let me have my driving lights off, then half of the lights on, then all of the lights on. I was sold a 6 terminal on-off-on switch but I can not work out how to wire it up so I get what I'm after.:confused:

Do I have the correct switch?

If your driving lights are relay controlled then a single switch isn't going to work, you will need additional relays in the circuit and the switch needs to control the relays.

A head light switch (mini, series landy, etc.) should work. "OFF" (pretty obvious), "PARKERS" to operate the first set of relays and lights and finally "HEADLIGHTS" which could turn on the remaining (relays and) lights. (A single pole 3 position switch)

yep but make sure it is a head light switch (position 1 is still active when you switch to position 2), and some more relay/wiring bits as Bushie said.

nope you want a double pole double throw switch.

wire the 12V power to both of the terminals on one side of the switch
wire the lights off the 2 center terminals one half per each terminal
wire the one terminal that lines up with the side that you want to come on when you only put on half the lights and feed it 12V.

done.

A smarter option would be to do it with a pair of daisy chained relays and two SPST witches

you could also use a simgle pole multi trrow wiper switch
you could use a headlight switch
or an ignition switch and take the feed off of the accessories and igniton poles.

Eeek, my brain just melted. I was hoping to be able to reduce the amount of wiring I had to use, but I am beginning to understand that it does not work that way.

I may just us 2 simple on off switches. One for each set of lights.

Ho, Ho, I've found a headlight switch - pull on type. Now to work out how to wire it up.
