A bit of a strange one for you all, but I'm interested to know if anyone is aware of any other vehicle manufacturers that have such a comprehensive range of spare parts available (genuine, OEM and pattern) and so easily accessible as Land Rover (through the MicroCat system that is available online or download)? For example using MicroCat you can pretty much find the part number for anything that you seek and then sites like BritCar, Paddock Spares, etc. offer the items often in a variety of different brands.

Prior to purchasing my Discovery, I owned a few other brand 4WD's. I was attracted to Land Rover ownership after a friend of mine had blown the head gasket on his Discovery 300tdi and asked me to repair it for him. Initially I was shocked at the difficulty to obtain parts from the usual outlets (Repco, Bursons, etc.) as they either had nothing listed or often when they did it had to be ordered from their suppliers. That was when I became enlightened to Rave and MicroCat and how easily it is to find the correct part number and then make your selection from often the multiple different brands!

I've also had numerous Ford Falcon's which have been easy to obtain the parts for, but not the same level as Land Rover with the easily accessible MicroCat database.

So, any other brands that compare to Land Rover for the DIY owner?

Just found this - http://www.zzap.ru - pity it's in Russian, but hosts a large number of parts databases for a variety of manufacturers. Using the pictures and a bit of word translation it's possible to navigate it and find part numbers.
