Range Rover remote locking thingy

I only (will) have one of the clicky things. Is there a way to get a second one and program for the vehicle, or will it require 2 new clickers as well as replacing the onboard reciver/ecu/chip thing that it transmits to ?

It's not just a simple matter of getting another key cut as the alarm is integral to the remote thingy as well.

Will those learning remotes that Jaycar sell work with a RR of your year> You have an existing remote which may allow the new remote to learn.

However, if yours is a code hopping system, the Jaycar systems may not work.

But it's worth asking.

I have been asking a similar question as I have no remotes at all.

I have been told that if you have one already it is easy to encode another one by synching it with the alarm ECU. There is a procedure but from memory I think it requires the test book. You can't do it key to key, it has to involve the ECU.

The handsets themselves are about $200 from LR or I am currently waiting to hear back from British4WD who claim to be getting them in a bit cheaper.

Actually I found this in the workshop manual......


HANDSET INITIALISATION

NOTE: New handsets are supplied in pairs.
If a new handset is required, it will require
initialisation to the ECU using the
following procedure:

1. Starting conditions: ignition off, doors unlocked,
bonnet switch depressed.
2. Carry out instructions 3 to 9. within 8 seconds.
3. Switch ignition ON.
4. Switch ignition OFF.
5. Lock doors.
6. Unlock doors.
7. Release bonnet switch.
8. Switch ignition ON.
9. Switch ignition OFF.

If alarm is correctly accessed, horn will sound and
LED will light. It is now possible to programme two
handsets of correct frequency to vehicle alarm ECU.
This must be carried out within two minutes.

10. Press and hold down button on first handset until
dash LED flashes.
11. Repeat instruction 10 for second handset.
12. The LED will extinguish if both handsets have
been initialised correctly.

Hi Vlad, unfortunately the only ones readily available in Australia, to my knowledge, come from LR and are ridiculously expensive.

I have a number of the Learn Remote controls and they don’t work with the LRs, because the remotes used by LR ( at least from 1997 ) use Rolling Code technowlage which actually changes the code being transmitted each time you press the button, while the Learn Remotes only copy one code and then mimic the same code over and over.

Clicky thing = remote fob

8O $200 ! You'd make sure you didn't lose one knowing what it would cost to replace. Aftermarket alarm would be cheaper however the benifit would only be when you lose the (or another) fob the replacement wouldn't be as dear as LR genuine.

they will have a few lying around......i know we used to from lost keys or warranty jobs etc...
