Roof lining coming off

Morning again, sitting looking at the interior lights - see other post - and realized that the lining was coming loose in all the corners of the molding panels where it is obviously highly stressed when made. Probably a dozen or so places, When it gets light enough will post a photo.

Not sure what anyone can do about it but has it happened to anyone else or is it just our poxy climate ?

Up in Kuranda I'd be surprised if the climate didn't have something to do with it. My mum lives up the hill from Millaa Millaa and she is forever having trouble with the humidity up there making everything go mouldy, and Kuranda is far more humid than Millaa!

I've noticed the trim on my A pillars, which is some kind of velvety fabric, has started to delaminate too. What you normally need to do is either remove or peel the fabric back, thoroughly clean off the foam backing that gives it that nice soft touch when new (but deteriorates after years in the heat) then re-stick it.

If this happens over the rest of my roof lining I'm just going to go down the same path as I have with my old Nissan TRX:
-peel the fabric off completely
-remove all traces of the foam from the roof lining substrate
-get new fabric. I personally chose a high quality dark grey alcantra (synth suede) material from Warwick fabrics.
-spray a suitable contact adhesive to both surfaces and leave it to tack.
-apply the new fabric to the substrate and allow to dry/gas off.
-reinstall in car.
I did the TRX about 5 years ago and it's held up well.

Alternatively you could take the roof lining to an upholsterer and have them do it all for you.

Or you could just scrape the foam off the bits that have delaminated and then re-stick them with contact adhesive and you might get a few more years out of it before the rest of it starts hanging off.

T happened to my 06 D3. In all the corners like you say and the A pillar. I sold it and got a D4 problem solved.

This is a common problem in the D2, I've replaced the roof lining in my current D2a as well as an earlier D2 I had.


You'd think that Landrover would have found better foam/glue to use, these recurring problems shouldn't be occurring!
