hey guys, my old man just bought a 6x6 ambulance, which is bloody awesome, makes my d1 feel a like a toy in comparison.
We're searching for a frame plan for the rear cabin, to make some simple modifications, like hatches and wot not, any ideas ?
there appears to be 3 vertical pillars, which are used for the bunks to attach to. Which we assume would connect across the roof as well.

I picked 1 up also and am looking at setting it up as a tourer for an extended around aus trip.
I will be building in a bed and kitchen. Also going to fit caravan sliding or push out windows with fly screens.
Truck is in having air lockers fitted and 3.45 gears. (Was a long drive from minto to mackay qld at 80/90kmh)
also have brought a new turbo and intercooler as per the advice on the 4bd1 performance section.
Soon as its back from the shop ill be striping out the back and fabricating the bed frame, storage, water tanks and kitchen.
Let me know if you want any pics or details. Might be able to swap some useful ideas.

I brought a TDO4H-19T water cooled turbo from ebay, its a made in japan cost me $850 delivered. The intercooler is the biggest 1 I think will fit with out choping it up to much. Its an air to air front mount.
The turbo fitted to the 4bd1t engine originally is non waste gated and runs at a much lower boost pressure then the engine can handle. They are a very strong engine and many guys are running over 20psi boost.
I had a v8 landcruiser ute tuned up before I got into landrovers and it hauled arse, another member on here claims similar performance from the 4bd1 if tuned correctly, I hope so haha. To fit a different turbo you need to make or buy a manifold adapter to suit. Also a big snorkle is a good idea and possibly a custom airbox to get her flowing abit better. Im going to fabricate and machine all of the parts I need but im sure people probably sell them. Shoot you some pictures on the way.

I would love to have a look at your rig one day if you ever feel like showing it off!

Sorry typo, ment 3.54 crown wheel and pinyon gears. The same as in the early defenders. The 6x6 has 4.7 gears. Also need to fit defender centers as the centers in the 6x6 diffs wont allow the 3.54 gears to fit.
Ill be going to see how much work the shop got done during the break on my 6x6 this afternoon.
I expect the total cost to be around $8-$9 k

It will be interesting to see how you go, I spoke to a chap that had 3.5's put in his 6x6 at MR Automotive and said it was a bit high for the 6x6 and recommended getting 4.1's.
I'm very interested to see how the 3.5's go with the turbo mod. I will be putting turbo, intercooler, exhaust, diffs and lockers in mine, just not sure about what ratio to get. I don't really want 1st or
Low range to be too high, but some better top end speed would be good.
Just catching the perentie bug.

front axle used a rear banjo diff from a 90, fine spline instead of the corse spline. I had assumed it was the same as a early disco or rangerover rear banjo.
the rear are Salisbury diffs, do you nee to change the center to fit 110 crown wheels?
the units I fitted had been assembled housing and added hubs.
the 6X6 I had driven sat almost on redline to get 98Kmh. 3.9/4.1 would be better other wise you need to use low range on slow roads or car parks.

I am now the proud owner of a 6x6 & am half way thru a camper fitout.
My ambulance came without the tow hitch!
Anyone know of where I can go to get one that fits?

Might be a good idea to go to REMLR and ask what they can tell you.

My original plan was to run 3.9 ratios but finding a company that made them proved hard. I did find 4.1 out of the usa but after running the figures through Ashcrofts calculator I still wasn't happy with the results. At over $1000 each set if it wasn't right the only other option would be bigger tyres. With the 3.54 gears its easy to get spares if I bust 1 on the trip and if I want I can change the transfer case ratio to a range rover set 1.17 or a 110 set 1.34
