No doubt many of you have seen this documentary, but for those who have not its a very good film with interesting old footage. There is a scene with a Defender driving up a dam wall,I would be very interested to hear your thoughts on that scene,it looks real.

Yeah I did notice the winch I didn't think it was doing all the work over that distance.

There is an old post on here about how they filmed that commercial. Apparently for safety reasons the driver stayed out of the car on the way up even though he was quite happy to stay. Great commercial though.

used a specially prepared winch (extra capcity drum) and a suite of batteries in the back tray, it was winched the whole way on batteries alone with the engine off as it was determined that the engine would not have lubrication due to the angle exposing the oil pick up and that +4 pot would have been completely immersed in oil from the sump.

Through the wonders of youtube I found the full commercial,it's s hell of a lot better than todays car commercials.

Another oldie but a goodie, When car companies are trying to sell modern 4X4's why don't they make ads like these to show off the cars abilities? Instead of 'I bought a Jeep' that's filmed on sealed roads.

Can a mod tell me why and where this thread is going to be moved to? I have no idea why this particular thread would be deemed unsuitable for general chat. Many members have posted they want Land Rover content in general chat,so I am unsure whats wrong with the content of this thread. This post is not a whinge, just asking a question.

One reason could be, it is a very good thread, and deserves to be kept somewhere where it will not be forgotten. Keep it in general chat, and it could be lost , Bob

Thanks Bob,I didn't think of it that way. If that is the reason it makes sense.

That old Range Rover ad is sooo good, just shows how advanced it was at the time..

And they actually increase it's off road ability with the coil springs!..unlike most 4wds today that use Electronics to make up for all the off road short comings:angel:b
