Dashboard removal HELP!!!!

Defender 2002 TD5 Can anyone advise me how to remove the lower dashboard. Seems to be held in the passenger side footwell. There is a fan and a pipe.
Can the lower dash be removed without disconnecting the air con pipe and loosing the gas?
