pays to check the simple stuff first...walked past the '57 yesterday and happened to bump the front left wheel and heard an ominous 'klunk'. Dived in and pulled the hub off, sure enough the inner wheel bearing was shot.

Put it all back together again and pushed the hub up & down...still got the same 'klunk'..agghhh:censored:.

Touched the axle to swivel bolt/nut and they were as loose as.....surprisingly the original metal-lock nuts had long since lost their 'lock' function..doh!. So after much extra work, new nyloc nuts fitted, new gaskets, new oil, slight swivel pre-load adjustment and new wheel bearing set and we are back on the road......

ah well...good old rovers:)

Can't say loose nuts has been an issue, it's the opposite lol

aircraft rule with self locking nuts,
if you can wind it on through the locking with fingers, the nut needs to be replaced, metal lock or nylok.

When reusing those two types of locking nuts and they feel like they are not locking, I sit the nut on the anvil and place a bar square across the locking portion and give the bar a tap with a hammer to tighten the locking mechanism.

Doing this has saved me many trips into town to buy more and the treated nuts have never let me down with a thread coming loose.
