Hi All,
Hoping you can help diagnose my problem.
My horns on my 01 D2 have stopped working.
They were gradually getting quieter and then just stopped. All fuses appear to be working. Where should I look next?
Cheers, Chris

Hi,
If it was me I'd be looking for a bad earth. A place to start.

Check the horn relay in the main fuse&relay box under the bonnet. Swap the horn relay with one of the others of the same type (small relay - black with green stripe)

Will do. Away from home at the moment so will report back in the new year.

If they were getting quieter then stopped, I would be looking for horns with water in them or corrosion.
Been doing the Ad thing on a beach, by driving in the salt water artistically spraying salt everywhere?
Sometimes they can be rejuvenated by adjusting the frequency screw on the side of the horn.
I had my RRC horns die on me and bought Hella ones which were much louder.
In any case electrical troubleshooting REQUIRES that you start at the component then work back. Put a multimeter across the input wires and see if it shows power when SWMBO presses the horn button between grumbles.

Knowing the D2 horns, I'd bet each of the elements have progressively died.

In a quiet place
Pop bonnet
Wind drivers window down
Standing outside the vehicle with engine off; Press horn button and listen for a slight click from fuse box region under bonnet
If you hear a click they horns are dead.
Happened to the D2 that Junior now owns - 2 Hella units bolted in and all good to go.

Just need to swap the plug for a couple of spade connectors (or make up a patch loom if you're so inclined) they bolt straight in place of the old ones..

Thought I would follow up with this. Checked the relays and it clicks when the horn button is pushed so the horns are D.E.D. :( swapped the relay just to make sure and same result. Just need to order some new horns now. Undecided between Supertones or Sharptones. :spudnikwhat:

Hi Tombie,
Did you have to wire in the relay as well or just modify the plugs?

Seeing that they are pointing directly into sound deadening foam that they are quiet is not surprising.
If you were to turn them 90degrees they would be much louder at the front of the car.
This is why I fitted Hella scroll horns pointing forward when my RRC horns died.
