Victoria's Premier Andrews Recognises the Value of Recreational Fishers
We congratulate Premier Andrews and his team's recent election to Government in Victoria. We are pleased the Premier has recognised the significant, economic, social and environmental benefits recreational fishing brings to Victoria each year. Currently recreational fishing contributes $2.3 billion to Victoria's economic and social wellbeing annually.

Under Premier Andrews? plan, Target One Million, the Victorian Government has committed:

$20 million to halt commercial netting in Port Phillip and Corio bays, increasing fish stocks for recreational anglers and offering a clear and fair exit strategy for licence holders;
To the banning of netting at the mouth of the rivers in the Gippsland Lakes;
To a $10 million Better Fishing Facilities Fund to develop new recreational fishing reefs, improve boat launching facilities and access to waterways, and to install fish cleaning tables and fish aggregating devices;
$5 million in stocking and education programs;
To maintain Lake Toolondo as Victoria's best trout fishing location;
To open recreational trout cod fisheries in Beechworth;
To stock 15,000 one-year-old barramundi into Hazelwood Pondage to create a new recreational fishery for the Latrobe Valley; and
To establish an independent statutory authority to manage fishing in the State.
In addition, the Premier has pledged to create no new marine parks. Keep Australia Fishing will be working to ensure the Andrews Government delivers on its election promises.
