Hi Guys
I did a bit of work on the gear shifter on my 109 van this morning.I managed to get all the slop out of the shifter, its now as good as new.
I found most of the slop is in the larger ball just up from the end of the shifter. To fix this I removed the set screw that screws through the housing and into the slot of the ball on the shifter.I tapped the screw hole out to suit a larger bolt, then shaped the end of the bolt with the bench grinder to suit the slot in the ball.I also fitted a new O ring to the small ball on the end of the shifter.
Before doing this I had 6 inches or more of sideways slop in the shifter whilst in gear, now I have less than 1 inch and the gears are much easier to find.Quite often I would get 3rd instead of 1st

G'day Andy style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif
Yup, that should take the slop out of it for a few years style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif with the rubber "O" ring on the end it would be a 2a lever as the Series 3 had a hard nylon ball/cup on them,Which broke-up or dropped off style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif I have got 6years out of the "O"ring on mine so far, but I am not a hadr gear-changer as you cant realy hurry a series box style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif I am now due to replace my clutch plate it has started to slip when you floor the 2.25 in 3rd "OHH The Power" it has got 140,000 miles on it so would be pretty worn by now style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif
