Replace it. According to the workshop manual every scheduled service. So every oil change.

That's part of what allows LR to indicate 20000km between oil changes. Versus 5 to 10 for competitors engines. Under normal service. I replace every 12 - months or thousands of kilometres.

Definitely change it , just be careful not to overtighten the 10 mm bolts
as the housing is aluminium, easier job than the spin on filter , which should be changed as well

Use a genuine or OEM replacement filter. The pattern types do not seem to spin well - the noise is noticeably not there when you shut down the engine.
I strongly suggest using a small 1/4" torque wrench and setting it to the correct torque setting for retightening. This forum is plagued with threads of damaged/stripped threads from over tightening.

I just replace them with an original every service. They're cheap.

Wow, 20'000 Kms?
I just changed my oil 1500kms overdue
(10'000 as per log book- this was 230'000)
And there's no way I would want to leave the oil in there for 20'000kms
I was even thinking of dropping my interval to 7000!

Btw: D4s are 25000km or 12 mths. Considering that the oil spec for a D2 is ACEA B2 and the current specs available are B4 , oils should last the distance. Depends on what you are comfortable with. Until i got it, oil change was every 20000km.

To be honest i would love to know the correct oil change km cant find them in any of the books that came with Disko td5
the Haynes owners workshop manual says 6000miles for oil and 12000 for centrifuge
The Land Rover agent in TAS said 20000 km, which seems a long way between oil changes
And filter is around the $35 mark

According to the factory service guide:
Services at 20,000km under "normal" driving conditions.
"The maintenance items listed, are those recommended for vehicles operating under normal driving, road and climatic conditions. More
frequent attention may be necessary if the vehicle is subject to stop/start operation, extremes of temperature, dusty conditions, off road
driving or frequent towing of trailers."
Centrifuge at "A" services which are 20,000km and then after every 40,000km.

In Rave CD. Maintenance checksheet indicates frequency and items to inspect. Every 12 mths / 20000 km.

why not, when I was running big red i was running nulon oil an changing at 15000km oil testing showed the oil to still be good.

Personally I always change the centrifuge rotor oil filter with the oil and the spin on oil filter - I can't see the point in leaving it in when they are relatively cheap.
I service my TD5 every 10,000km as this is about 12 months of driving for me. You do need to remember that it's not just the km, but also the time between services that is relevant.

Landrover's spec for the Td5 is 20,000 for oil change. However, if the vehicle does repeated short trips of less than 8 km or stop start driving or long periods of idling, this is then reduced to 5,000 km.
The above would apply to a lot of those that live in a capital city and drive in peak hour.
I live in the country where my disco gets little of above, but I still do it every 10,000.

I have posted data before which shows that the centrifuge keeps the oil very clean. So as long as you are using good quality oil which does not degrade then changing the oil sooner is just a waste of money. After 20000 km in a Td5 you will have less contamination in the oil than 5000 km in most other diesels.

x2 - as maximums. Any driving out of the ordinary and my figures drop accordingly

D2dave - 5000 or 10000 for extreme service?
Interesting (?) aside - some new Mercedes monitor oil condition and tell you when to change. Drive hard - expect about 5k between changes; drive moderate / highway etc - up to 60k between changes.

10,000 for petrol and 5,000 for diesel.
Here is a scan of my service book.
