Hi all
Merry Xmas

Td5 auto won't rev above 3000rpm
Blows no black smoke, happened suddenly. Power up to 3000 is fine.

Will they still run if fuel pump in tank is stuffed?? I can't hear it primping with ignition on and I'm sure I used to able too.....

Yes they will start and run with an inoperative fuel pump until the line to the injectors is opened, such as by removing the fuel temperature sensor in the regulator block or by loosening the fuel filter.

Thanks mate

So it sounds as though my fuel pump is stuffed as it still goes but not anymore than 3000!rpm. I was going to open today to see if the gauze was blocked but by the sounds of it if I do this I won't get it started again!!!

Can I test if pump is stuffed with multi meter??

You might be able to test it with a multi-meter because often the cause of failure is 1 or both brush holders melted. However removing the fuel pump relay would certainly prove a failed pump if the engine still runs.

ISTR that if the ecm looses the injector codes then the revs will be limited to 3000 rpm. Will the engine steadily rev higher than 3000 when in park? If so then that discounts the possibility of injector codes havnig been cleared.

You can do a check with multimeter set on DC Amps, remove the pump relay(R1) and insert A-meter terminals in cavities 30-87, turn ignition on and watch the meter, when the HP jet pump kicks in you should get between 10 - 15A drain, if it's lower IMO the HP stage is gone, anyway if you hear it running it means the LP stage is working and if the HP is gone the engine will run without power, if the LP stage fails too you can't hear anything from the pump(no current draw on A-meter too) but then the engine will die soon and not start as well

Thanks again mate
I'll give the rev in neutral a crack tomorrow and report back

However the engine wouldn't start after removing the temp sensor to fit a line to a pressure gauge to prove that there was no pressure, which there was not.

I have had my D2 TD5 in mud, sand, highway, never had to go above 3000 revs. What are you doing, to have to go that high? Bob

Hi, I had this just the other day and it was a small hole in the turbo boost hose from the regulator to the waste gate.
. Simple fix, replace hose, 5 minutes.... good luck

Bob you may never have the need to rev your engine beyond 3000rpm but I'm sure if you need to it will, if a TD5 won't go above 3000 then there is a problem.

Murdoch is looking for assistance to fix the issue he has.

I don't normally
It's just that going up the hills it was kicking down gears and going no where, had to boot it and noticed 3000 was it!!
Has enough torque below 3000 anyway. Has done 230k Kim's, not keen on blowing it up...

Anyway
Have power to pump plug
No holes in turbo vacuum lines
No resistance in pump
Car runs with pump unplugged
If put in prime mode(pump accelerator 5 times) and belt tank with hammer I can hear pump trying to go!

Time for a new pump in think, unless I have missed diagnosed...

Thanks all for help

If you have to belt the tank after trying the primer mode to get it to work then the pump is stuffed;)

No worries mate
Next question
Pump in car has part number wfx 101080
All eBay ones are different , most are wfx000280. They look identical to mine however with the 4 lines attaching??

it's the same pump just that the first part number was superceded by WFX000280

Try Roverlords (Mario & Heather) either pm him on here or he has a store on ebay . Very easy to deal with and very honest and helpfull . He is in Vic but he has his own carrier pidgeons we reckon as postage is super fast;)
