i have a mate that has purchased a x-miltary landy and he has a problem with the gear-box. he lost first gear and now also jumps out of second at idle. when he first bought it all was sweet the box looked like a brand new one. but then out of the blue he lost first gear. it makes no noise or anything, shifts into the slot but no first gear. anybody have an idea, as it can't be off the road for long as it's his only car. cheers wally

Hi Wally, it sounds like the snap ring (circlip thingy) may have come off the rear of the mainshaft allowing the mainshaft to float. He will have to take the pto cover off the rear of the transfer case and check if the snap ring is in position or not. It's on the mainshaft behind the transfer input gear when you remove the pto cover.
