Hi guys

With all this chat about late model discos not liking batteries, charging systems etc stuffed around with due to 'smarts' in the BMS, I thought I would check with the masses on a normally straightforward question...

MY14 car. About to connect a fused anderson lead direct to the battery (no dual batteries yet) - well, connecting to the positive battery terminal and to the body earth stud to be exact. I assume this is correct?

Also, before I do anything I would assume to disconnect the negative battery terminal first as per normal practice - will this upset the car, the BMS, or anything else?

What has to be reset on the car after its all connected back up?

Similar question.

2014 RRS currently fitted with red arc isolator and anderson plug at rear. Query is would it be ok to connect an arb compressor (portable kit) to the remote terminals under the bonnet, or thru the Anderson plug (motor running) , or best to not connect a device like this with a high current draw to a vehicle like this

Anything that you connect to the electrical system, must be on the positive terminal of the battery, and to an earth stud on the body.

Never, ever, ever connect direct to the negative terminal of the battery. Never. Just don't do it, ok? ;)

The D4 has bits of electronic trickery and the vehicle monitors the battery via the negative terminal, which is how it protects itself.

Adding regular accessories like compressors & winches pose no greater problem for these cars, than they do any other. The same rules apply. Ie: Leave the motor running so as to not flatten the battery, and give it a chance to recover afterwards.

Not sure if that's 100% correct as my TOWPRO was wired in by MLR with the -ve wire from the TBC to the -ve terminal of the battery as opposed to the earth stud as discussed in numerous posts on the site.

When I challenged the the service manager why they had wired it in this way I was advised that it made no difference and they wired them both ways (why they would not have a standard procedure bets me..).

I haven't had any problem yet, not that I believe for one minute that the Service manager would recall the discussion if my electrical system spontaneously combusted....:wasntme:.....

Let me know your Rego & when I return I will check who wired it in.
Can you also supply a photo?
I never wire direct to the Earth Terminal on these vehicles.
