Trim Question

My 02 Vogue has silver strips down the side. In a couple of places the plastic covering is lifting. Do I pull it all off or just cut it flush?

Well it looks tatty but if I pull it off don't want it to rust or such - plastic film must be there to protect it??

Stainless steel normally has a plastic protective film applied when new which is supposed to be removed. Is it possible this is what you're seeing peeling off?
