HI Folks

I have a Discovery 3 2.7 Liter Diesel. I am connecting a horse float to it via the large std 7 pin plug in the back and the reversing light doesn't work.

Can someone please help me with a few things. Who ever put the plug left no excess wiring so i can pull the plug out far enough to check the wiring at the back.
I blew the fuse for the taillights in the side compartment in the boot area. But as i don't have a wiring diagram what is what back there is a mystery.

The help i need is as follows

1) Can some one send me a wiring diagram or a link to one

2) If not can you please tell me what colour wires to look for?

3) Also please tell me if the wiring changes colour when it goes in the back of the large 7 pin plug

4) Is there another set of fuses hiding somewhere else

Thanks for your help

Damien (confused)

Hi Damien

The problem is that the black plug is wired to ISO 1724 (European) specs instead of Australian Standard 2513

You will find that pin 2 which should be reversing lamps in Oz are the rear fog lamps on your Land Rover.

You can pick up the reversing lamp output from pin 1 on the white plug or as an interim solution you can turn on your rear fog lamps when you want the reversing lamps on the trailer.

How this is legal to sell a vehicle in Australia with wiring that doesn't meet Australian Standards I have no idea.

Diana

BTW: you can find the harness connectors in the LH tow jaw storage locker of the D4 if you want to make the change permanent, not sure if this is true of the D3.

WARNING
Be aware that if your trailer has electric brakes, Pin 5 on the black socket which should be the service brakes in Oz is actually the RH tail lamps on your Land Rover.

Is this also true of D4s, Lotsa?

The wiring of the sockets is the same, and you caught me on the model as my info is all D4 (I read Discovery and 2.7 litre but missed the 3). :BigCry:

So my info on the location of the location of the harness and connectors may not be true for the D3.

We have exactly the same issue on our D3. 'Cos I'm haven't for in an adjusted the wiring we just use the fog lights for reversing. Not the neatest, but zero mods needed ;)
Cheers

Really appreciate these factual discussions. We actually had the opposite problem when hooking up our Ulti. The reversing light on the camper stayed on all the time. So thanks to Lotz-A for the pin settings s all I did was remove #2 connection and everything now works as it should
