Hi,
Its been quite a while since I have played in the Land Rover camp, but have just taken the plunge, and am in the process of purchasing a Range Rover Sport Its a MY10 TDV8 Luxury with only 25K on the clock

Interested in opinions / comments on Warranty as I have been offered a 2yr Landrover extended New car one with roadside assist

Its not cheap @ $3800.... and I am on the fence with the decision which has to be made before the deal is finalised (Only available at time of sale)

On one hand reading about vehicles that have blown turbos ending up with body off jobs & $10K bills, it's not a bad idea
But I'm thinking considering the car has only done 25k kms, is immaculate and I am only likely to do 10K kms a year, the likelyness of this happening in the next 20 to 30k kms (2yrs of WTY) is pretty small
Probably wont go anywere near the $3800 cost in other smaller issues that may arise with such low kms....

So leave $$ in the bank and take the risk, or cough up and be safe

Thoughts and opinions welcomed

Thanks and regards

PS will post some pics and further details once deal is finalised

Personally I would cough up for peace of mind, but you don't have to do it at time of purchase, they'll give you that deal anytime up to the point the factory warranty runs out. Having said that, I got talked into buying the extended warranty at the time of purchase (new RRS in 2010) but sold the car before it kicked in. However, it certainly helped make it an easy sale.
(Now have a 2012 Vogue TDV8 Luxury)

Are you buying from a Land Rover dealer?

I'd agree with Greg. Worth paying for peace of mind...... Provided it is the genuine landrover one. Regardless have a good look at the product disclosure statement to see what is and isn't covered. May help make the decision easier.

Cheers

I have not hesitated to purchase the genuine LR extended warranty.

I have done so on my last two vehicles and as my heading says I have that special lucky streak. i.e.

No extended warranty = major breakdown/s.
With extended warranty = no breakdowns. Yipeeee!

Thank you all for the comments so far,

I am buying the vehicle through a dealer in SA, who among other things, are also a Jaguar / Landrover dealer.

I had talked myself out of the Warranty, due to only having a 2 year option, but
had a rethink this afternoon due to a persistant nagging thought in the back of my head that I'll be severely kicking myself 12 mths down the track if I dont get it.

So after factoring in your opinions, I have decided to get it !

Have had a look at the PDS of the one being offerd by the dealer, and it's the Landrover branded Allianz product, with roadside assist

Interestingly, The finance company I'm going through also have one of their staff certified to provide the Allianz branded version of same....
Have compared the PDS from this to the LR one, and apart from having a pic of an Evoque on the front & LR branding, they are identicle except the allianz branded one does not include roadside assist (which you can purchase seperately if you choose).

Dealer wont go below $3800
Finance company $3500, but have gone away to sharpen the pencil.

Will update what I end up with

Hi Neal,
I think the extended warranty is a good investment / peace of mind, the little bit of haggling is good for the sole, but having have to use the genuine LR warranty
several times coupled with the road side assist, I would pay the small difference to have it.

Can't put a price on peace of mind, but a body off experience is not one you want to go thru and pay for. Murphy's Law...

Good luck with your purchase, love the V8

If this extended warranty is not a factory LR warranty but an aftermarket one
make sure you read the fine print very closely.

I have seen these in the past where in the fine print lots of things aren't covered, especially electrics, which in a modern LR/RR would probably be the most important thing.

One of the biggest fine print to look out for is the Service intervals, sometimes (and I have been burnt on this previously) they increase Service intervals to comply with their terms, for example it must be serviced every 5000k at that particular dealership, and what are the ramifications when you go just 10 klm's over the recommended service intervals...

You may find your very expensive extended warrantee null and void. The dealerships are very good at talking you into something you don't need and they get the biggest commission if you say yes or get talked into it. just a thought to ponder over.

So, the purchase has gone ahead, settlement yesterday, and should be loaded for transport to WA on Monday.

It's very pretty ! :)

It will need to discover what its terrain response is for in the coming months tho (and so will I)

Will post a pic or two once I figure out how to.

I looked at quite a number of WTY products, but ended up purchasing the Allianz one (Exactly the same as the Landrovery branded version, but whithout roadside assist)
paid $3400 for 2yrs, commencing in 3 mths, after the dealer WTY expires

Clearly the the WTY / Insurance companies are not keen on the Landrover product, or more so, the costs that they are liable for through the LR dealership gougings & LR AU parts pricing.

Sorry mate but pics are required. It's the rules.

Also a quick review of the new RRS would be good.

Congrats,
Maybe a Green Oval course with Gordon will help you nut out the LR Systems
and capabilities, plus it's a lot of fun too!

Jack

On Gordon's Facebook page he has a V8 going up a dune, it's sounds awesome :)

Buying sight unseen does have its risks, but in this case as long as its not a lemon,

The dealer assures me its excellent....."as new" even :vampire:
I dont think it's seen a days work in it's life, so with the Wty I should be ok

Re: the GOE seminar / training .... yeah, I think thats a great idea
unfortunately timing wise, I think theres one happening today, so I've missed it
Hopefully not too long till the next ?

Sorry Rar110, It's the outgoing model not the new one
I guess the thread title is a bit misleading.... but it is New to me :D

Dont think I can edit the title now.

I Did seriously think about the new model, but I find the V8 sound addictive.... as much a part of the experience as any of it
To get a V8 in the new model, by the time you factor in all the charges and taxes, your talking serious $.... more than double what this one cost

Just cant justify the outlay at this point in time
Will be on the radar again in 2yrs.... maybe 3 depending on how entertaining the L320 is

No worries. Am interested how you find it anyhow as I have RRV with the same motor. Coincidently I watched 007 Quantum of Solace which featured an earlier RRS.
