Hay all, hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Years.:)
For the past several years i have been searching for a 4WD club that does outings both day trips out of Sydney and overnight further afield trips. To date i have had not luck.
So i thought i would see if anyone would be interested in creating a group of like minded Defender owners, to get together while exploring our great country. The trips will be all family based with kids ( and wives ) welcome, open to any Defender owners and we will try to get out there every 4-6 weeks or so. I do not want to lead all the trips and would like to draw on the knowledge of others to go to different area that my family and i have yet to discover.
At this stage i am just looking to see if this is something that maybe of interest.

I take it you haven't found the LROC(S) yet? Whilst there aren't trips every weekend there are day trips, weekend trips and week plus length trips all year round.
Planning a day trip for the 12th of December is even further in advance than most week long trips are organised!

I will definitely be interested later in the year once my truck is finished.
Thanks,

Sorry it was a typo, was ment to say 18th Jan ( now been fixed )
Many many years ago used to be a member of the land rover club Sydney branch and was trip leader for a few years. Will look into it again thank you.

I'm in, Photodude.
I tend to go away about once a month with my mates who drive a Hi-Lux and two Land Cruiser's respectively, but I'd love to go away with a few other Defender owners.
Should be able to get Damo along as well now that he has Big Red.
I'm very keen to find out where other people go on their weekends away as I love exploring new places.....and of course I'm very happy to share a few of my favourite spots too.
I'm not sure if I'll be allowed on the JC trip as SWMNOBABFAR is having a double foot operation next week and will need me to don the slave outfit....but we'll see!

Would you be open to possible tag-along by Canberra based defenders if you venture south? My roster varies, so not always free on a weekend, but would like to maybe sneak along on the odd trip.

Not a problem at all, i would like to do a few overnight trips. That way we can get further out of Sydney.

Starting a 'proper' 4WD club is a nightmare trust me.
Just meet Defender owning fellas here on AULRO, post an event in the upcoming trips forum, enjoy the trip and post a report in the trip reports forum when you get back.

I'd be keen to head out with other fender owners! Currently on the last leg of a two week trip with the missus and the amount of LR bashing from jap owners ive encountered is driving me insane! Even had a police office take a dig at me yesterday while sitting in his pootrol! Arrgh... So.. to head out with like minded individuals would be a breath of fresh air!!

They just don't want to admit they are driving cars with all the character and charm of a fridge.

The first trip was great fun and being part of a Defender ( be it only 4 cars ) convoy brought a smile to everyone's face.
It was discussed that the next trip will be around the Watagans.
Saturday 21st Feb for on overnight camp or Sunday 22nd Feb just for the day trip. Lock it in the diary.
All details will be in the upcoming trip section as they become available.

Great stuff!
I have just hot back from overseas now and would love to hook up on these trips!
I am in Wollongong, so not too far away! ...
I gather there are apparently some great trails still 'open' around Norwa which sound interesting. Anyway, please put me on any 'list'!
Cheers,
Pete :)

Count me in for the watagans. Contingent on me remedying this fan belt situation.
The GF and I are finding sydney to be best when viewed from miles away so we love leaving this place.

Hi Adam
I've never camped at the 'campsites' up in the Watties, I've always just found a space in the bush - there's a few around which are excellent and have well established fire sites. No facilities but that's the way we like it....peace and quiet and we keep them respectfully clean (and always take home any rubbish we find).
I'll check the MudMaps app this evening as I've dropped a couple of pins up there so can suggest locations. There a great spot up towards the Quorrobolong end up on the ridge top with a sensational view to the north east whihc we named 'Poms Look Out' after taking a load of my English friends up there when they were visiting....and there's another favourite spot down in the middle of the forest, just off a junction of two trunk roads....a delightful grassy patch we call 'Easter Bunny Point' after the weekend that we went up there first.

Not sure of numbers yet but from the interest I might say around 8-10 campers.

I could be in...
Just wondering if the route plan would enable a camper trailer to be towed? A good nights sleep is the key for SWMBO!
Cheers,

Not sure of route as yet. I'm still in planning stages.
Do not plan on doing anything to rough and will keep trailers in mind when sorting out a route.

Righto, apologies for the delay folks.
A couple of good camping areas which I've used for years. No facilities at either but they're nice wee spots.
Poms Look Out!
-32.9729, 151.3716
This is a great spot and we can easily park 5 or 6 vehicles plus there's a larger area for tents. Smashing views to the north and north east. Very easy access from Heaton Road or from Watagan Forest Road.
Easter Bunny Point
-33.0906, 151.3586
A nice grassy area, good for 5 vehicles, maybe 6 but if people are using tents there's heaps of room. Very easy access and a pleasant spot for a camp. Good for stargazing as there's a big clearing.
Very happy to go to any of the actual organised sites with facilities, I'm just throwing in a couple of options from places I've stayed with my friends before.

Plenty of room for loads of cars, a cracker view and easy to get to from the Freeway too.
Just a suggestion.

Hi Adam,
No trailer now! So feel free!
BTW, using the 'Boiling Billy' scale, what would you rate the 'difficulty' of the route please... easy, medium or difficult?

Guys can you please move all your related chatter about the up and coming event over to the trip thread in up and coming events where it is supposed to be please.
Its great that you have the chat and interest up here but as I assume this is not a defender specific trip the thread in UCE is being left kind of dead in the water and you want get other interested parties looking.
They are not going to come looking in this thread.

Even if you ony want defenders to attend talking about the actual trip should really be done in the trip thread in up and coming.
Perhaps put in the title defenders only.

For anyone that is as crazy about their Defender as i am. I have started a FB page for the Defender 4WD club.
We plan on doing a trip every month, with varying difficultly.
Keep in mind it is an unofficial club, no memberships , just come on the trips if you can.
Also don't forget the trip next weekend ( 21st and 22nd Feb ) to the Watagans.

Facebook Group issue
I know that not everyone here uses Facebook and that's fine, but the Group tends to communicate on Facebook as well as on AULRO as it's good for sharing pictures and posts and promoting the site.......but there's been some confusion thanks to there being two Facebook groups with the same name (the first site didn't allow everyone to post on it so it was ditched).
When you search for 'Defender 4WD', two results will be displayed. The active group is the one with the hand as the logo, as pictured below...and has 'members' rather than just people who like it.
Please come and join in the fun; there's nothing quite like the sight of half a dozen Defenders rolling into a small country town or driving along dirt tracks. If we can make it a dozen, so much the better.

Congratulations on your club guys, but I was wondering if you thought of joining the LROC Sydney.Great group of people with a ton of experience 4WDing and maintaining Land Rovers. You don't even have to have an LR to go away with them.As for trips, one group recently went to Cape York and another on an extended outback trip, about fifty days I think. They have regular short trips and they're always open to suggestions re trips and I'm sure they'd love to have you.Everyones welcome to join.Just a thought:welcome:
