A Big Ask...Apart from using OEM Engine Oil from Landrover Spare parts for a D3 2.7 V6 System....what local lube oil specification equivalent match is being successfully used in Australia for off the shelf oil purchase. I repeat and emphasize successfully as not to compromise the longevity of the engine and not diminish any performance of any components :)

I have been using the castrol recommended oil for my D3 - Castrol MAGNATEC 5W-30 A5 for 100,000 Km with no Ill effects. Available in 20 litre drums from your friendly Castrol distributor. From memory around the $200 mark for 20 litres.

What Tote said... http://oilselector.castrol.com/c/uk/eng/recommendation/e68a8e4866dfbd466ca9c58338a9268b/Land-Rover/Discovery-3-(2005-2009)/Discovery-2-7-TdV6-(2005-2009)
I usually get it on sale from SCA, last time I think it was about $75 for 10 litres.

As Above ...........
SCA is a convenient supplier.
The spec calls for B5 additives ( as I recall)
All info available on the Disco3.co.uk site

Note that the above oil is A5/B5, not just A5.

Also note the link above from Will is the UK version of Magnetec - which is fully synthetic. Unlike the Australian version of Magnetec, which is not - and doesn't meet requirements!
The Australian equivalent of the required oil is "CASTROL MAGNATEC 5W-30 A5" - which I think you can only get from a Castol dealer - not SCA. Unless they don't list it on their online shop. Does anyone know for sure if SCA sell "CASTROL MAGNATEC 5W-30 A5" in their stores?

SuperCheap Auto, Bursons, Repco, Autobarn, Auto 1, Auto Pro, Sprint Auto Parts.
be careful, min order is 20 litres and its not a cheap oil.

If you call Hi-Tec (http://www.hi-tecoils.com.au/) or Penrite (http://www.penriteoil.com.au/) they will tell you which of their oils meet the specification.
You can use the product selector on their site, however Land Rover doesn't show so try Jaguar or Ford for your motor.

I purchased a 20ltr drum of Castrol A5 professional last year from Repco for $171.00 spoke to the technical bloke at Castrol who said that Castrol Edge 5w 30 FST would also be suitable in my2009 D3. Used this oil in my last 2005 D3 from new for 9 years without a problem .
