View Full Version : TD6 injector harness - common failure?

Seems to be quite a few threads on other forums about injectors and harnesses failing.

Going to see if I can pick up a new harness tomorrow, as I hope that's my issue, but I am more than happy for any comment or advice or a different opinion or view point....

Started as bad idle once warm and within a day grew to no power and bad vibration misfire like, and revs fluctuating between 400 and 800 at idle, and bad pulsing in reverse, almost shuddering....

Hey mate - I have heard of a few injectors failing, but not the harness. If you are going to pull your injectors and they have been leaking around the copper washer, they are an absolute **** to get out. I spent over 30 minutes with a slide hammer and a fitting I borrowed from a diesel pump and injector specialist to get one out.

Then you need to think about the crap that falls into the cylinder when it's removed. A member here bent a piston skirt because of a bit of soot that fell into the cylinder. He had blown and vacuumed it out, but obviously didn't get everything. Because of this, I pulled the head off to clean the cylinders out properly - and that's a pretty big job in itself, and not very cheap either when you add up the cost of gaskets and bolts required but not half as much work as pulling the bloody sump off to pop a piston out.

Hopefully just a new loom will have it sorted. From the video, it just looks like a dodgy connection.

I would replace it. Good pick up. I remember watching a wheeler dealer episode where they tidied up a L322 td6. They did the injector loom to fix a similar problem.

I won the lotto.

appears to have just been the harness wiring failing.

But I didn't do my research and the large South Australian independent sold me a second hand loom for more than I can buy a new one from an Australian parts seller, and half the plug clips snapped on fitting as its brittle from I assume being out in the sun.......

lessons learnt! new loom will be purchased tomorrow....
