After fixing the cooling system on my D2. The starter motor has started to play up. I can hear a click when i turn the key and other times it will just start. I check the relay and its good. I even swapped it around with another relay.
So i have look at the RAVE disc on how to pull it out but i cant find anything.
Does anyone have some info or helpful hints to remove the starter

Have a look at this thread. Covers your question. Good luck getting the fastener on the engine side undone.

do that one first then it doesn't have weight on it.
do some searches here, there is heaps on removal replacement and o/h of solenoid which is the common problem.
also check your fuel pressure regulator that it is isn't dripping on the starter solenoid.

Thanks for the quick replys people
When you say does it have weight on it. What do you mean by that?
I checked if the fuel pressure reg is leaking and it is clean. But there is a bit of oil (not dripping) on it from a leaking rocker cover.

I meant remove it first so it doesnt have the weight of the starter motor hanging on it as you try to undo it.
you can see the other two

Thanks to everyone for the helpful information and a big thank you to ramblingboy42. You got it in one.
I removed the solenoid backing plate which has three 5/16 bolts holding it. Inside i found old had gotten inside and stopped any contact to happen. So i used brake cleaner to clean all the oil up. Then used some wet and dry sand paper to clean the contacts. Put everything back together and it starts everytime.
So a huge thanks again to all for your help. I really like this forum and its friendly helpful members.
