Removing windscreen top seal strip

The ol' water in the driver's footwell has struck on a highway trip at speed in driving rain. Tested with the hose and the leak is coming from the top window seal.

So I need to seal the top edge. My question is, can one easily remove the top rubber seal strip or is fitted around the top edge of the glass? Does one just (gently) pull it out? Or you apply sikaflex underneath the edges of the strip.

Prying it up a little, it looks dirty under there, so I assume I need to clean out before applying the sealant.

Advice, comments, and/or pictures would be greatly appreciated.

I am sure a D2 has a bonded windscreen so the best fix would be to have it rebonded. I think the trim strip is just trim.

It may come to this. However, if I can fix it without the hassle and expense of removing and replacing the windscreen, I'd like to try it first.

I think the trim is fitted to the windscreen before its bonded to the opening. If so, I'll have to try to inject sealant under the lip of the trim.

Sierrafery, thanks, I'll check the corners. I think my retaining clips are missing and I have holes at the ends of the roof gutter that allows water to run down the side of the windscreen.

Another possible entry point is the front mount of the roof bar.

I had a leak coming in the top corner of the door. A quick run around the mount of the roof bar with Sikaflex stopped it.

I found my copy of Rave which says the trim is fitted to the windscreen before fitting. So went and looked at a new replacement and it has a deep slot in the trim into which the windscreen fits, and which confirms the Rave procedure. If done that way, I assume at least some of the windscreen glue would be adhered to the trim too, making it very difficult if not impossible to remove without damage.

So, got the windscreen leak sealant goo and pushed the sealant under the top and bottom lips of the strip. Time will tell if it works, not only in stationary rain but with 100kph wind behind it.

Pippin, is yours an earlier model disco? Mine is 2004, perhaps the trim is different?

I just looked at my spare and spare D2 and you are correct it is fitted to the windscreen first. Even through it is possible to remove it intact from the vehicle it might be difficult to refit , sorry for the misinformation.
