You might want to put in a relay if you up the wattage.
Defender lights go through the switch on the steering column, and even standard globes end up burning out the contacts on the switch.....

I should mention then that I also used a traxide kit to upgrade the wiring.
Edit: Or I could get beaten to it haha. My switch already burnt out before I did the upgrade.
The kit is very good and instructions very clear.

it had IPF lights fitted to the front by PO and it appears to have the upgraded harness as well, im running a set of lightforce XGT's but theyve been converted to HID put those in the other week, so far no problems...

Unfortunately they are rubbish... While they are very bright, the spread is completely wrong and you end up with a near useless spot pattern on the ground...
I actually went with a higher profile brand with a very good write up, but the one only lasted 4 nights before it stopped working. The e-bay vendor was pretty good and gave my money back when I returned them.
Add to that the fact they are illegal and its a hefty fine if you're caught (not sure on the method or judgement criteria though) I would not recommend them.
Cheers,
Lou

If you are willing to spend some money Truck Lite Phase 7 7" round headlights seem to be well regarded. I wouldn't mind some myself but ended up with just replacing mine with modern wipac jobbies.

There's no point in changing globes, the lights don't get enough power without a Traxide upgrade. Pat
