Thanks for this post and pic.
Its amazing though, that the caravan site who did this report, have not crossed the chains, and also, have the trailer disconnected emergency brakes go on blue coiled wire - attached to the tow bar! If the tow bar shears from the chassis (which has happened before) the safety device may not work. It needs to be connected to the chassis directly!!
If that Ritter bar can be lowered, then one could control the trailer height. That is a great feature, if it works. The placement of the safety chain connectors is great too - they are very easy to access, a world better than Land Rover's access points.

Yeah, the breakaway wire being on the shackle isn't the best. The crossed chains debate is one that never seems to end though. You should read some of the threads about this on some caravan forums. :D

How is this any better than a Mitch Hitch, I've had my Mitch Hitch for 3yrs and even with the tounge in, never heard any rattle and never bumped my shin either.

I've read a lot of these van forums, they are whingers, most of them have no clue how to tow anything properly, some of the absolute dribble they sprook would be laughable if it wasn't so dangerous.

I had hitch rattle with the standard D4 hitch. I have never had an issue since fitting the Mitch Hitch.
I also have a spare on the back so that keeps people away from the hitch.

Where do you fix a shackle in a recovery situation? Im assuming the eyelets for the chain aren't designed for it?
Cheers

Simple - just remove the tongue from the hitch and put one of these in.

I've had one since owning the D2 - haven't needed it on the D4 as I still have the original OEM tow hitch and recovery point on the back. But this would work just as well with a Mitch Hitch. ;)

It sure does. I keep it in LHR storage compartment where tow hitch used to live before I got the Mitch Hitch. As you say, should work with the Ritter too.

Duh! Haha thats pretty obvious...
Still, it appears that with that it hangs down lower than the mitch hitch would.

What's the round black housing (with the label on it) in that pic Scott.
Is it a fan for rear air-con or something.
Mine doesn't have this - so I have a lot more storage space in there. I keep the OEM Land Rover towbar tongue and ball (and mis-fuelling re-set device) in the bag provided, all wrapped up in a thick towel to prevent any movement, plus a roll of rope and an assortment of ratchet tie-down straps in there, as well as the OEM toe hitch receiver where you have strapped the billet attachment.
I'm also going to have a look to see if I can squeeze a hydraulic bottle jack and Andrew's jack adapter in there somewhere. Not much room in the other side, and I will leave the original jack in there.

Exactly. I am a bit envious of the missed storage opportunity. But the dog does enjoy the rear a/c. And it'll be good for re-sale eventually I spose.
Cheers,
