D2 RHF Window Problem

Hi Guys,

I have done a search on the common window regulator problem and I have had to replace one window regulator before so I know a bit about this issue but in this scenario I am not certain it is the regulator.

Last time this happened the LHF window got stuck and the rollers on the regulator were broken. Replaced the regulator no problem.

This time on the RHF window, the window went down and would not come back up. The motor sounded like it was really whining.
I pulled the door trim off to get the window back up and have found that it has gone soft. i.e it will stay up on it's own but you can push it down by hand with very little resistance.
It neither goes up or down now electrically.

Does this sound like a regulator problem? Just don't want to waste my time replacing the wrong part.

I should mention that it worked perfectly before this and wasn't showing any signs of tiredness.

Yep that's what I assumed. Maybe i should replace it with a new regulator and motor. They seem to be about the same price as just the motor by itself.

Nylon gear teeth in regulator probably stripped

as long as the rollers in the regulator are ok it will be fine the nylon gear on a d2 is actually on the motor had the same issue with mine when I bought it turned out to be the motor

I received my new regulators, secondhand motors and panel clips this week, so last night I started removing the old parts.

Unfortunately, whoever has tried to fix the windows in the past has made a huge mess of the mounting holes for the regulators..... I'm hoping I can find replacements for all the missing bolts and maybe put in some large flat washers to "recreate" the mounting holes. Here's hoping that I can get the regulators into the correct positions.....

Well, I went and sourced the bolts & flat washers from Darwin Bolt Supplies this morning (A quick plug for these blokes..... They're friendly, knowledgeable and no purchase is too small - I've been in and bought a single bolt in the past. There are other mobs in Darwin who I refuse to use, they're so darned rude!)

I managed to get the bolts slightly longer than standard although they're flangeless, unlike the standard bolts. I wanted them slightly longer to account for the extra depth needed for the washers & also because the holes were such a mess, being enlarged and the metal distorted.

Anyway, it all went together beautifully & the windows are working :). There were just enough of the holes in the correct position to get everything lined up properly, although without the washers, I think it would have been nigh on impossible.

The hardest part was getting rid of the glue residue off the glass from the packing tape that'd been used to hold up the windows!

So, I'm well pleased. I took my time and enjoyed the process. It also got rid of two huge rattles!

I'm rather looking forward to taking her for a spin tomorrow..... to get the aircon fixed! ;)

I probably won't have to use the windows much once I have the A/C working. How's that for irony? :)
