I have an April 2014 D4 HSE diesel and when recently tried to play an MP3 track from a USB pen drive the audio recognises it for a few seconds then error message appears "can't read from pen drive".
Anyone else had a similar problem and found a fix.

Try reading the manual for guidance - from memory (sorry, bad pun!) it requires formatting in FAT32 (which limits memory stick size) and also has to be a specific bit rate of MP3.

Sorry cant help with the questions about the usb stick as I've only used iPod and bluetooth streaming, but my partner just got an Audi Q5 its got SD card slot and can only read up to 32gb cards so maybe LR has something like that with their system cant read big USB sticks not sure.

We have a 64Gig USB stick in ours, Dec 14 model and it works perfectly, albeit without some of the functionality of the iPod but still handles all our music for travel. Simply use the system to choose the USB and off it goes

I have a 16GB thumbdrive in the D4.
Not all music on the drive is readable by the D4 system. Its common with most USB audio systems.I can put the same thumbdrive in my boat or grader and it will play differently.ie tracks the D4 cant read may or may not be able to be read by the boat unit or grader unit, what the boat unit can play the grader cant etc etc etc.
