Hi,
Have just got a faultmate ms-v and am having trouble with it recognizing windoze 7 64 bit.

Can anyone tell me what version would be best to use with the faultmate.

Thanks in advance..

cheers

Hi Graeme,
I'm not getting anything from it.Have bought a 32 bit win 7 disk that I'll be putting in to a refurbished laptop in nxt couple of weeks, so I'll see if that does the trick.

Did it seem to install properly as a 32 bit program? I run mine on XP but could try the install on Win 8.1 to see how it goes.

I just installed Vehicle Explorer on a Win 8.1 system without any hiccups. The driver for my USB to serial cable had to be installed first as access to the Faultmate is req'd during the installation.

Just went and checked again this time using my ASUS Laptop (about 4 yrs old N53S) running Windows 7 Home Edn. 64 bit. The Vehicle Explorer version is 1.29a. Did a scan and all seems to be working OK. Could be to do with Internet Explorer. What version are you running? There was a reported issue with IE9. I am running IE11.

The Win 8.1 I did a trial install on is 64 bit running on a quad processor with Vehicle Explorer running in 32 bit mode. This particular PC runs Firefox not IE. VE is the most recent 1.33 - there has been a few.

Just re-read your first post... you say you have got a Faultmate MS-V...Are you a new Faultmate owner?... did it come pre-programmed for your vehicle V.I.N. or did you just buy it from a previous user? sorry for all the questions, but "Colin a.k.a. Faultmate Inventor" has some ingenious security setups in the black box to preclude automatic transfer to another vehicle...
there may be some "TUP" codes which have to be activated before you can use it..."TUP" codes relate to specific system modules for your vehicle...they're like the multi digit codes used for registering windows/Office etc...

Hi Hoges,
I bought it new from blackbox,so I'm trying to get my head around the instructions, which are pretty simple but I seem to be having a problem with it reading from the ms-v to my laptop.

Will try again in the morning and report if I got any further.
I have to get a map of my system so that I can send it back to them.

some issues which I had to fathom the first time I set it up:
(i) the MS-V plugged into its own power supply?
(ii) the USB to serial converter cable has its "Prolific" drivers properly installed(Check 'Device Manager'); and
(iii) Sussed out the correct "Comms" port to direct the MS-V to on the computer?

Got it going this morning and downloaded the vehicle explorer.

When it finished downloading it came up with " MSCOMCTL.OCX" missing.:censored:

I opened up the licence aggreement and it came back
" run time error '75'
path/file access error "

Did you get that when you downloaded yours Hoges?

How frustrating!!!

I had not come across this, so I "Googled " the file and one of the options was (it's) "missing"...in the context of a Win 7 64 bit -related issue.. when trying to install a program..

Here's the response from a MS guru

-Find the C:\Windows\SysWOW64 directory
-Look for MSCOMNCTL.OCX
-Right click on Command Prompt and select " Run As Administrator"
-Type the following CD C:\Windows\SysWOW64 directory
-Press Enter
-Next Type Regsvr32 MSCOMCTL.OCX
-Press Enter
You should get a message "DllRegisterServer in mscomctl.ocx succeeded"

Proceed with the installation of ... ( Vehicle Explorer)

Hope this helps

There's another reference to this file here: (MSCOMCTL.OCX dependency error attempting to install FLAC frontend - Microsoft Community (http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_programs/mscomctlocx-dependency-error-attempting-to-install/f96acaa3-90d7-437a-a9cc-9130eb17fdb4)) IIRC A FLAC front end is something to do with music ...an alternative to MP3 recording... nevertheless, it's about a MSoft file issue when trying to download a program...

FWIW if not already done so... completely remove VE now that you've sorted the MSCOMNCTL.OCX file issue and then reboot and download VE again and then try a reinstall..."it" (the system) may still be looking for MSCOMNCTL.OCX ...now that you have located it, the system may need to start from scratch and discover it during the VE installation process... which is why it may be worth downloading VE and saving it to a special directory by itself then reloading it as per the directions. when I last downloaded VE, I didn't connect to the 'black box' ...just fired up the "ve.exe" file (or whatever it is) and let it do its thing to install. I then connected the laptop to the black box to upgrade the modules in the black box...

Hi Hoges,

I DIDNT get to download the MSCOMCTL.OCX file, it would keep coming up unknown or whatever.

Am getting a win 7 32 bit disk this week, so I'll wait till I got that and load that into a laptop and see what happens then.
