G'day all,
My D2's steering wheel is pretty badly worn on the rim & I'd like to replace it with either a good secondhand jobbie or a (gulp!) new one.
Mine has the cruise-control and audio buttons.
Anybody have any suggestions?

I'd suggest scanning Microcat for the part number and then Googling that for a start.
Alternatively try eBay.

Steering wheels are the same for any configuration of paddle buttons.

Triumph rover spares in Lonsdale SA would likely have a few of them , what you would pay I have no idea.

Try Bundalene on this forum. Dunno how he'd ship it if he has one but he's not too far from Shaw's Darwin Transport

Mr Steering - Hand made quality leather steering wheel covers (http://www.mrsteering.co.uk/)
Hand made quality leather steering wheel covers
I bought one of these for my D2, as the top was badly sunburnt.
I havnt had a chance to fit it yet, but I had a similar thing that I bought off ebay fitted to my Wifes car for the last 6 yrs and its lasted quite well, my dad got me onto them, he fitted them to 2 or 3 of his cars over the years.

X2 TRS in Adelaide. I got a nice leather wheel with cruise and audio for $200 just over 12 months ago from them.
Prior to that I had fitted a wheel cover, from Mr Steering on ebay. It certainly is a cost effective way of fixing a sun damaged wheel and looks pretty neat. Personally though the end result was a bit thick for my liking so i reverted to a factory leather wheel.
Cheers

Hi Dave,
I had a similar problem with my Defender steering wheel & ended up buying a leather cover from the UK. Has made a world of difference, was a joy to install :( but the result is excellent, did take 2 + hours though:
FOR Land Rover Defender Black Real Leather Steering Wheel Cover | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LAND-ROVER-DEFENDER-110LEATHER-STEERING-WHEEL-COVER-/260742167904?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3cb571bd60)
Also I notice that Exmoor Trim have some very nice looking replacement steering wheels in their latest catelouge.

Thats a Mr Steering jobbie!
They do tend to fatten up an already thick wheel tho.

That they do, but mine needed fattening up in the top half as it had shed some weight, and was skinny. Also got a Pangolin 4X4 leather cover for the Series 1, which also fattened the skinny hard wheel rim up nicely. Doesn't slip through the hands now. Again took about 2 hours to install & did wet this one first so it shrank a little on drying out. Almost looks like a bought one.:)

I got one made from Mr Steering, that was half solid leather, half perforated, to replicate an OEM leather wheel.
My only gripe with the one I got, is that the sides should be longer than the top so as to match up with the spoke in the OEM wheel.
I sure if I had thought of that, and emailed them when I ordered it, they maybe could have done something.

X2 on the UK leather sew on job. Italian leather and it shrank over time in the sun.Nice tight job.
Looks and feels great. only took about one hour to sew in on. The thread and needle included in the kit.
I think it cost about $17.00

With these sew-on covers, do you remove the old cover first, or do these stitch on over the top?
The top of mine is completely worn away - something to do with the high-UV levels in Darwin I suspect :(

Over the top - hence the above conversations about them making the steering wheel thicker.

Just keep an eye out at spares places. I got a nice almost new one dark wood and black leather and my leccy black leather seats and centre console at the same place. Literally all like new and cheap. The wheel was $80 fitted... Makes a huge difference to the driving experience. The old rubber wheel had started to come away from the steel. The wood doesn't do that. The new wheel is slightly thinner to hold and the wood veneer feels sweet.
Cheers
