Hey all,

I've been looking around for a tailgate mirror to aid in reversing and hooking up a trailer but am struggling to find anything that's suitable for defenders online. The most common are Hiace mirrors (like this (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TOYOTA-HIACE-05-to-2013-TAILGATE-MIRROR-ASSEMBLY-ALL-NEW-PARTS-/141555643816?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368) guy), but from what I've seen the geometry isn't quite right as it preferably needs to stick out far enough to see around the spare tyre on the back.
No problems with drilling into the panel, and I'd be mounting it above the gutter off on one side so that it's visible through the small rear window.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Cheers

PS Not interested in a reversing camera.

Camera and screen sub $100
Why would you want a horrid mirror hanging off the back looking ridiculous?

I'm not a fan of reversing cameras, mostly because of simplicity and I like looking backwards when reversing I guess.

Edit: You are right about the horrid mirrors though, most I've seen are ugly, but I did once see one on a defender that looked fine.

The only thing those horrid looking Hi ace mirrors are good for is looking around the back of welds.

They are the first things that get taken off our work vans.

They are also in the way when loading and unloading gear on the roof racks.

I have one but threw out the receipt a couple of days ago. Bought from eastern states about 18 months ago with a brand name like britax for about $30 and I think it was on ebay. Has a long stalk and fully adjustable. Just did a quick search, but no luck.

I found the reference to the mirror. It is a Britax Rear Under Mirror Part No 1441017. Hope it helps

Much appreciated Gavin, I'll look into it.
