Do the last of the 6-speed D4 gearboxes disconnect the drive when stopped whilst still in D like the 8-speed? The feature was added to the later versions of the lower torque versions 6HP19/6HP21 used in other vehicles so wonder if it was also added the 6HP28 versions.
