Has anyone else seen the ads? Well on Thursday curiosity finally got the better of me, thinking "Gee that seems like a pretty good drive away deal."

Went to a local dealer initially but they only had SR5s and kept telling me I actually needed an SR5 - out of my price range and I want a workhorse... city dealers just don't get it. Dropped into a big country dealer 330km from Melbourne in my travels the next day and they had a few on display. Anyway it was about 34 degrees and they offered a test drive, so I took them up and made a remark about the weather and said let's get some A/C happening. The guy looked at me like I had two heads and said A/C was a cost option and not standard in the SR:eek:. He was a bit of a larrikin and I actually thought he was having a laugh. It's $2,051 option:angel:

How could any car be sold without A/C standard?? It's 2015 and a hot country!

Air conditioning! You've gone soft.
None of my Landrovers have air conditioning.
Too hot? Open a vent or window.

that would have been manual wouldnt it?

and you'd at least want a towbar.

theres another $4 grand if you want auto.

so it would be hitting $45k just above basic trim.

You driven one? We have dozens in our fleet, although they have AC, they are very uncomfortable and give me a bad back within 15 minutes behind the wheel. They are also noisy, and the engine vibration is also bad. They still sell bucket loads of 'em for some reason. Says a lot about our population.... :D

We did the suspension on our Dmax after fitting canopy, bullbar, drawers etc and with a 40mm lift bought it up to the height specified in redbook.

Toyota has always considered A/C as an extra, even on the 200 series.

A friend who is a Toyota fanatic go sick of it after several vehicles , so when he ordered his 200 series and the salesman said A/C cost $xx he said he would have it without A/C.

The result was a $1000 less for a 200 series with A/C as they are all built with it and the dealer didn't want to spent the time and $$ removing it.

I have no reason to doubt the person that told me that story.

Cheers Ean

I don't doubt that either, that is what surprised me so much that this Hilux had no A/C. I would assume all arrive here with factory A/C and it becomes a money spinning easy way to add a few grand to the bottom line as surely <5% of buyers would opt for no A/C. There'd probably even be a special order lead time for one without A/C.

A GMH dealer I used to work at was very happy at the time as they had managed to get the cost of fitting air con by their workshop to be the same as factory, that was the early 90's. If toymota dealers do the same, it's constant work for their staff, with their dealer margin thrown in.

Yep that's true, my missus was the fleet officer for DECC(National Parks) A/C is an option on Toyotas and if you don't want A/C, they charge to remove it, trust me if you don't tick that box, you will get a Toyota without A/C, Kerry found that out with a phone call asking was she sure about not having A/C, the phone call was a curtousy call about the other mods she wanted, the A/C was mentioned by the girl, she thought it was odd that they didn't want A/C:o

That lead to another 1/2 an hour on the phone making sure it did come with A/C:angel:

Just received an SR as part of my package.

I assumed AC was standard, Toyota bar, driving lights, UHF, Toyota canopy, tow bar, start and battery isolator, jump start Anderson plug, flashing light......$44k. Now I'm assuming there is a fleet discount I'm there somewhere.

I find the Toyota better than the BT my team has.

I have knocked up 6000 km in eight weeks and the seat are fine, in fact it goes pretty good.

When I first started in the PMG all the vehicles supplied had their radios removed. Management thought they were too distracting. Plus no air conditioning. If you went to the vehicle workshops there were piles of radios sitting there.:o:o:confused:

Certainly do pat. Mine was replaced with ultimate suspension at 5000km. Still no defender but way better than std. Lifetime warranty on the springs and 80000 on shocKs.

Looking for a way to get rid of the rear leaves and convert it to disco2 rear full air...

Dreaming a bit really as I'll never get the time. .
