View Full Version : Infrequent crack/bang when driving into strong headwind

Hi all, recently started experiencing a noticeable crack/bang noise every now and then when driving into a moderate to strong headwind.

Only seems to occur when driving into wind coming diagonally off the front right hand corner of the vehicle and it sounds like a piece of trim has broken off (or is in the process of breaking off) each time. Sounds like it's coming from around or under the right hand wing mirror or front corner of the windscreen.

Had a good look and feel of all trim components in the area and under the vehicle and everything feels as it should.

Only thing I can think of is the air inlet on the drivers side (behind the fancy side grille) and whether a sudden rush of wind/air is causing something to bang/crack/flex inside there on occasion.

Anyone else experienced this noise? Any suggestions? I live over an hour each way from the Land Rover dealer so would like to rule out anything obvious before booking it in.

Sniegy, any ideas?

Your A pillar trim piece may have a broken clip mount. I had this happen on my D3 and managed to use 2 part epoxy to fix it.

X2. ;)

I had the same with both A pillar trims on mine after I had a windscreen replaced. The windscreen place used cheap after-market (from Supercrap Auto) plastic clips, which were simply not up to the job.

I replaced all clips with genuine Land Rover clips (and have another spare set in the glovebox) and have not had a problem since.

Thanks for the responses. Can someone please post a photo showing where these clips are fitted so I can see if mine is broken.

I did have a fiddle around with all of the trims and they seemed ok but will check again.
