I know this is a forlorn hope but is there any other cause of over pressure in the coolant other than a blown head gasket?

I've read your other thread.
Nope

Consoling face on now, said with kindness....
Pull the head off and sort it before you stuff it. Your postponing the inevitable.
Around $700 with oil and coolant is better than $3500 from a shop if you can do it yourself.

Good to see you are thinking, and asking, Bob

Thanks guys.
Full list of parts needed have been procured from British 4X4 and are winging their way south as I write.
I have gone for all the hoses thermostat and water pump whilst I am at it.
It will soon be time to get some oil under my fingernails.
Regards Nick.

....and a back ache...

when I'm working on grumble I almost always use a set of short steps...

brings the hips up over the fenders and seems to make things much easier.
