At last night's RR Club meeting, guest speaker, Steve Morton, LR Aust General Manager, told us that Harold Scruby had lodged a complaint with the Advertising Standards Council over the new Disco 3 advert.
He claims, among other things, that it shows excessive speed and unnecessary cornering.
So now LR have to waste time defending (no pun intended) the ad.

If scruby had his way, he would ban all cars completely, except for his of course
Seriously though, he complains about any car ad where the car is moving pretty much. He's the only one that does, but because of the way the legislation is set up it only takes 1 complaint

I wonder if he complained about the toyota AUV one then
The man is an idiot, and an absolute joke. I thought it was a good advert, and I don't remember speed being anywhere in it!

There was a scene where the Disco was belting through a corner on snow and ice....but certainly not in a built up area and no pedestrians (including polar bears) in sight
If I was froathing at the new Hilux ad, I cannot imagine what Dear Harold was doing style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

This guy is an idiot. I can only assume he is on about the D3 add because the D3 is a "big" 4wd, and the hilux is a workmans ute. Still the slogan of the hilux add alone should be enough to get him going. Matt

i think that bit on the snow and ice may be a salt lake as we were told by the PR lady that the ads shown in australia were made here.
how does harold determine what is excessive speed on a salt flat that has no speed limit, no obstacles and no frickin' corners?

and on land which is promoted for its use in land speed attempts. He has no idea, lets just go back to ignoring him. Or better still send him a letter complaining about the Hilux add, i bet he will forget about the D3 add within minutes. Matt

You guys have missed the reason why he is complaining all together!!
Harold is only complaining about the D3 because it was 4wdoty which in sales means more people will tend to by it because of its tittle (here's hoping) to Harold this can only mean one thing more 4WD's on th roads and we all know how he loves that.
Therefore if the D3 isn't able to be advertised Harold wins....AGAIN!
Someone needs to run this ***** over perferably in a toymota (Oh, what no feelings??......... Mr Scruby!!!)

no point, he just doesn't listen.
the last one of these threads, someone rang him and although they got through to him, he just did not hear any other side of the argument than his own.

try this if you must or if you PM me i can give you his home address- it's public knowledge and was posted on another forum.
you might want to pose the question of why, in their list of objectives, they do not include "pedestrian education"

That was noddy. He had a long conversation with him, in the end, after a long time trying to get his point across Scruby got the ****s and a few harsh words were exchanged and scruby hung up. He is totally narrow minded and as barney stated will only see merit in his own veiws and ideas, dont waste your time he doesnt care. Matt

save the cost of the phone call, use it to give the 4wd association a greater voice so that they can override this clown
