Need help re tow assist

Hi need help re tow assist.
I have a Disco 4 MY 13 HSE want to hook up my tandem caravan using
the tow assist.
I have the triangle sticker LR part No. LR 021589. Have watched the procedure to be taken on You tube but I have a question.
Is the sticker to be put on the front of the caravan and left there whilst towing.
OR
Could I use some magnetic type sheeting, attach the sticker and then
I would be able to put the sticker of and on the caravan when I need to.

Kev, I don't think it matters as long as:

if stays on the van, it does not get damaged(stones weathering etc)
if it is removable, that it always goes back on the yellow zone and is not going to fall off

Thanks for the replies
Sean very kind of you to put up video for anyone to look at.
It is used with the surround camera system.
I was going to try to use it but I did not want to put the sticker
on and have to rip it off and have to go always back to southport
and pay another $12 for another sticker.
Anyway thanks again for the info.

Buy (or use one off the fridge) a magnet and stick over it to protect from stones when travelling :cool:

Seem to recal it being mentioned at delivery.BUT I was like a kid in a lollyshop that day,never owned a new car in my life,never mind a $80000 Land Rover!!!!

Hi Landy Andy As I have the MY 13 SDV6 HSE which come with the cameras
and the better sound system. I was reading the manual and found
the two assist option and decided after having a look at the you tube Instructional video on the tow assist to go and get the sticker (apparently the cheapest spare part LR have) and give it a go. Anyway the short story The way I wanted to do it was the stick the sticker which is 18cm x 18cm onto a piece of Magnetic sheeting. Found this afternoon this will not work.
So we will be trying it by placing the sticker directly onto the front of the caravan which I did not want to do

I have a my15 HSE D4, but it does not have surround cameras, hence my question.

Hi Yadillah
If you have a HSE you should have the camera system Look at page 97 of the manual under heading "Cameras"
My MY13 came with all the bells and whistles which included the camera system, Sat Nav, larger sound system. But it also came with the price
to match.

A couple of tips that may help.

1. You can use a photo copy of the OEM target sticker.

2. You can laminate the photo copy or make a sandwich between two clear perspex sheet to make it more durable.

3. Once the target is made durable you can use a wide variety of methods to fix it (temporary or permanent) to your trailer.

Can I ask you more questions please.
I have a 21'6" tandem do you measure from the tow ball to a position between the two of wheels for axle position
and once the caravan is set up on the on board computer is set, can you remove the sticker or leave it on.
Sorry I am 63 this way and not up to speed on this modern technical stuff

I am pretty sure that the measurement for a tandem axle trailer is taken from the ball/hitch to the front axle. You will find the details in the handbook somewhere. You need to select the type of trailer from the list of options during set-up. This information is stored by the car. You can store the details for several different trailers which saves you from having to re-enter the data for each trailer again.

You need the target fixed to the trailer when you start driving so that the system can calibrate itself and the target is detected when the car is reversed to supply the information to enable the computer to predict the track the trailer will follow. Without the target the computer doesn't "know" where the trailer is.

The reversing camera assist is only available with the surround camera package.

If you ONLY have the reverse camera, then you do not have the hitch assist function available.

My SE came with a reversing camera, trailer symbol on the touch screen when put into reverse, touch that and the screen changes with a yellow line from the discos hitch to the trailer/caravan hitch and assists you to line up both, very neat. I didnt ask for it, found it when I first brought it home last year and started to play. I assumed it was all standard.:)

That's a guideline. The trailer assist actually guides you to the trailer using a target.
It also shows you where the trailers predicted path is when reversing..
