Hi , I've had a Troutbeck steering guard for a few years , It has sat in the corner of my garage . I'm thinking of putting It on a 2.2 Puma . I have read some of the posts from way back , and read the pros and cons . My question is how do they effect the cooling ? The model I have doesn't have any holes like some . The thing is if I do fit It , It will sit under a ARB winch bar that has IPF driving lights , I know these can be a bit restrictive as well . So if any of you have gone down this path , I would be grateful for your comments ? cheers . Jim

I've edited the thread title, Jim. I'm sure you didn't mean you had some way to guard yourself from sneering. :D

Any chance you could have some cooling holes plasma or laser cut into your guard?

I have a Troutbeck guard (no holes) on my 2.2, & I have not noticed any changes in running temperature or cooling issues since fitting it. ;)

Thanks for that Ron , I'm lucky there are quite a few engineering workshops in my area , so will look into It . Jim :)

Can you still get the Troutbeck front guards?? I gave trying to find them and now supply/fit to customers Land Rovers, the APT steering guard, which has holes in it (if that matters).

Personally I cant see it matters and perhaps the only advantage of the holes are better access for cleaning mud from underneath.

P.S you may find an engineering shop unwilling to plasma or laser cut holes in a alum plate that has an existing coating on it. The steel supplier I use wont put other suppliers alum on their laser cutter as they say that some coatings / finishes can reflect back and damage the machine. dunno if thats a line or not, they supply alum really cheap anyway.

Hi Daz , I'm not sure if you can still buy them . I got mine off a mate , who was putting his Landy , in on part exchange , cost me a slab of beer . Never got round to fitting It on the td5 . When I get a Puma , I've been thinking about what I will put on It , bar ,winch lights ect , That got me thinking about using the Steering guard !!..
